Best SD for short scale mahogany guitars with rosewood? SH-10 vs SH-11 vs SH-5,JB etc

I've tried the JB, it works and is punchy but IMO its really suited better to snappier 25.5" scale length guitars. It will work ok though.

Tried the SH-11b, is a step up from the usual JB sound, but as many improvements it makes I think it comes up lacking in as many other departments (harmonics). Gives a nice lead sound turned down to about 2-3 which is pretty neat.

I was going to try the full shred next. In the literature it specifically says it works well with rosewood. I have 5 short scale Mahogany/Rosewood guitars (2 jackson fusions, a fixed bridge Maverick, LP, Godin Redline).

So far the best tone with the best range I've heard is the j92c pickup in the Jackson. I think I saw elsewhere the full shred could be comparable to the j92c in some regards. I'm not sure what other pickups are out there that I should try... maybe a bill lawrence of some kind.

I've had the FSb in a NightSwan (mahogany LP-scale with maple neck and ebony board). give it a try. a JB was in the middle, and they worked well together like that.

but I recently pull them both and put 2 f-spaced Buddy Blaze's "Blazebucker" bridge pickups in that guitar. he designed them for mahogany. it's 80s high-gain rock bliss that cleans up nicely when split. you can find them at Buddy's ebay store.

The two pickups I use in that situation are the JB and the Custom 5.

Don't rule out the sh-5 just because it's ceramic man

I had some odd results with an SH-6. Great power, great gain, through a solid state amp it gives a ripping gnarly metal tone.

For everything else, modeling amp, tube sound, through th2/guitar rig, did not sound very good for anything else. Like a really loud, wet fart. I'm a little gun shy of anything ceramic in a mahogany body now.

I say 59/Custom hybrid, with an A8 mag.

I'm on it - actually its interesting to note his new 25th anniversary nigthswanish guitar comes with a full shred in the bridge pos. I wonder if his dean ml with the blaze bucker is worth the hassle of getting my hands on.

I am using a Full Shred set in a (real mahogany) 750XL. It works. I stepped down from the Mayhem set which was too "much".

The SH-6 doesn't sound anything like an SH-5, just like the Custom Custom doesn't sound anything like the Alnico II Pro. They just have the same magnet.

C8's are great in mahogany/rosewood and 24.75" scale.

The Custom Custom is what I would recommend.

The Custom Custom is what I would recommend.

It's often too dark in mahogany. More consistent in a Strat or bright-toned guitar.

C8's are great in mahogany/rosewood and 24.75" scale.

yes, its a $2 magnet and 5 minutes to do though.

The fullshred and custom are basically the same wind. Just one being more articulate. they both take to magnet swaps well.

Not necessarily. If you don't want to mess with magnet swapping, you might be able to get a shop floor custom.
