Best single cut guitar for under $1000 dollars

Re: Best single cut guitar for under $1000 dollars

Godin Icons, the old body style, usually run in the 700-900 range.

In that price range, it's Reverend Guitars, hands down (in fact, even above that price range!) Best bang for buck going, and becoming more recognized/popular all the time (best in show at NAMM this year).

These are usually $1500+.

I paid less than $1000 for my basically new used Monaco Elite. Cost me 1025 or so shipped.

There are 150s out there for a grand too, I have seen 2 at my local stores in the past few years. My original 1994 H150 was offered back to me 900. Just gotta do some diggng. If you are just frequenting forums or eBay you will pay more

Japanese Tokai,

Gordon Smith (if you're in UK)

although not single cut & I haven't seen one in the flesh if I were in the market for a LP style guitar I'd want to take a look at these

I'm beyond satisfied with my LTD EC-1000 - its a nice piece of work. It took a little getting used to the thin 'U' contour neck & xtra jumbo frets. I'd definitely say its my nicest guitar I've ever owned.

Re: Best single cut guitar for under $1000 dollars

If I had $1000 to spend on the best possible Les Paul I could get, it'd be a used JDM Epi, or an Orville (or Orville by Gibson). The JDM Epi SG I had was one of the finest guitars I've ever owned. Fuji-Gen knew how to make a Gibson guitar better than Gibson has in 50 years...but unlike many awesome Gibson copies, they actually have the proper open book headstock and are very affordable. My SG was $400, and I put about $150-worth of electronics into it, plus a hardshell case. In total, I invested about $650 into the guitar. The stock electronics are cheap, but the build quality was superb. In every way aside from the electronics, it put my '04 Les Paul and my '83 Les Paul to shame. I only sold it because I had three SGs, and they all sounded identical. I kept the '68 that has been in my family for 45+ years.

If you can find one used, get an LTD EC401vf with an Earvana nut. They stopped making them with the Earvana a few years ago. They were really great guitars. I had one and regret selling it. I brought it to a buddy's house once. He really liked it, and he mostly goes for much more high end stuff.

Use Gibson LP Studio
ESP EC1000 or Eclipse II if you can find one.

Re: Best single cut guitar for under $1000 dollars

Don't overlook Godin in that price range. Godin Core CT (or the older Core). Definitely play one first, they aren't LP knock offs.
I have a Godin Session. It's setup with the bridge locked and low action. Very good quality for the price.

I've owned both prs se and esp ltd eclipse. I have to say I honestly love my esp. Plays awesome, well built , came with Duncan's and alpha pots. I paid 850 for guitar and case new

The Godin brand guitars are high quality. You get a lot of bang for the buck. My Session is my go to axe the more I play it the more I appreciate it. Continue to enjoy your guitars and rock on as they say.:smack:

Re: Best single cut guitar for under $1000 dollars

So this is open to anything from a Telecaster to a Les Paul?

Bit odd narrowing it down like that. Who cares how many cuts it has at that point? Larger other differences.

Re: Best single cut guitar for under $1000 dollars

I'll suggest something in a different direction:

Gibson "The Paul" circa 1979-1980, walnut neck & body with T-tops. Massive tone, great playability. Natural satin finish; not flashy at but they absolutely thunder! IMO one of Gibson's most underrated guitars ever- ask anyone who's owned one. These can still be had for under a grand. And nobody realizes they were made with an ebony board and long tenon neck joint.

Re: Best single cut guitar for under $1000 dollars

Geeze, I've seen some nice Epi's that were way under a grand. I picked up, several years ago, a Korina Explorer (which is a single cut) for $400.
