YUP . . . Fender makes the greatest reverb-tank in the world !

OK, so it is not a pedals, as per se, but still, the best valve-driven unit IMHO :smokin:

Performer 1000! Played one today, it has those Fender cleans, but the gain this thing has is ridiculous! Tons of gain on tap.

Save your pennies and pick up a vintage Fender tweed (or a clone from a current manufacturer). Those have the best breakup, IMO. I like the sound of the Bassman, Vibrolux and Tremolux.

You can find assembled kit clones under 1K these days, esp for the 5E3, 5F6A, and the 5E8A. A low power Twin is a lot more versatile than a Bassman as far as 'tuning' the output/distortion characteristics...ex. 5881's vs 7581A's, 2 5AR4's or one 5U4, low wattage alnicos vs ceramics, etc...

I love the Vibro King. I've seen a lot of rock guys playing those who have tasty overdriven tones. I also the the Deluxe's are great.

i'll second that.... Vibrokings are nice!!!

also 2 OD fender tones i loved was seeing a no-name cover band, the guitarist used a 63 Concert amp turned up..... great tone.... plus i saw Albert Lee do a store clinic with a reissue Bassman and one of his EB signatures that has the 3 P90's in it..... Nice!!!

Blackface Vibroluxes break up at decent volumes, that might be a good choice if you like to use your volume control to shift between overdriven and clean.

While I wasn't extremely impressed with the Fender Super Sonic, I must say, it's probably the best Fender for dialing in various clean and overdriven tones. The Pro Sonic had ridiculous amounts of gain in it (like a Mesa Recto being attacked by hoards of bees), so I wouldn't recommend it for a *good* distortion.

Sorry but from your description you probably want a Marshall DSL... good cleans, good drive, reverb and easier to dial in than the TSLs @ ~1000$
At least give it a try at the store.
Fenders aren't the best for overdrive imo (unless you have a nice pedal in front of it... the SD SFX-03 could sound great)

That depends on the type of overdrive you're after. It's very difficult to put tone into words. Sound clips or song examples are the best way at getting a feel for what kind of overdrive one wants. One of the top five all-time favorite overdrive tones (IMO, of course) comes from Fender tweeds.

While I wasn't extremely impressed with the Fender Super Sonic, I must say, it's probably the best Fender for dialing in various clean and overdriven tones.

. . . i got to hear some clips from the Bassman side of the Super-Sonic and the driven tone is something special !

I will play on that channel all day long !
Not too impressed with the so-called "hi-gain" side of it though !

Basically you're right, but those Fenders I have seen were either obscenely loud at the point they started to overdrive or had a gain channel that seemed like they were "oh well, here's our new amp... ah yes.. let's put some cheap distortion in aswell for the kids" :smack:

Ah, then you have neither seen nor heard the great tweeds of which I speak, young grasshopper.

Some of those have about a dozen watts of output, so they're not crazy when cranked.

I love a tele thru Deluxe reverb w/drive-probably my favorite. Next would be a Vibrolux.
