Re: Best Stock Pickups You Experienced
My son just picked up a new Gibson Flying V from Guitar Center with a 496R/500T pick up combination, and they sound really really great! We have no plans for changing pickups on that one. Lovely tone, sustain and distortion!
I on the other hand purchased an Ibanez ar-200 reissue, and everything is great about the guitar, including the pickups. AH1 and AH2, these are the stock pickups that come with it--and frankly, they are not bad--for practicing at home. I did have a couple of gigs in the past month, and both times I was left wondering if I should swap them out for a couple of seymours--and since then I have already replaced the neck pup with a duncan 59. Next month I plan on swapping out the bridge with a custom custom, or maybe something else.
This is not to dis the stock ibanez pickups--for an inexpensive guitar, they are a remarkable bargain, but as nice as they were, I still decided to upgrade.
And these ibanez pickups? of course I am sticking them into my Epiphone demon Flying V, to replace the epi pickups that are quite thin and crummy.
Another great stock pickup set? The ones that came with my old Peavy T-60 back in the early 80s! (see the guitar in my avatar) I have no idea what kind they were, but when I listen back to some recordings I made back then, I realize how good they were! I wish I never sold that old Peavey, but then again, I sold it to buy a 59 Jaguar, so I have no true regrets. But still....it was an indestructable guitar, and I wonder where it is now....
