Pickupwise, I'm gonna be going back to EMGs for the meantime. Regardless of my preferred style at the moment, I've always been happier with them. Plus, they sound great in the neck with tons of gain.
Tuningwise, I usually dwell in the C range, but anywhere from G#-E are fair game.
I use the exact same combo. Coicidence? I think not. I use a Russian Big Muff and a Park Fuzz Sound from the early 70s, which is an exact copy of the coloursound 3-knob tone bender. At the moment this goes into a Marshall DSL combo, which i am sort of happy with, but i'm looking for the right NMV all valve head at the moment, so that will all change soon.
I did a funny lil' one in a thanksgiving candy tin. Here's an uber quick clip done direct just to give you an idea. First a rhythm using the bridge pup (lawrence L500L), then a short sloppy lead using the neck (Kramer dual rail). Careful, I think it might be recorded too loud. The lead shows it's shortcoming of it not being able to hold notes very well, especially high ones. But I think that is part of its charm as well. I've never actually used it at super high volumes...I'm not sure if a normal guitar speaker could handle all the bass!
