I've got Schallers that have lasted me 15-20 years. No problems. Never dropped a guitar, the assembly never failed. Now, I do know about the grease and have maintained mine over time. I've cleaned out that grease and then sprayed some WD-40 in the cup part on the strap. Works like a charm to keep the parts from having too much friction.

I've used the strap locks from GuitarFetish with great success. Inexpensive, nice design, and you can use a strap without the locking mechanism on the strap button. They're a cheaper version of the Hennessey strap locks. Online thing I need to improve there was adding a pressure washer to hold the assembly screw on the strap and keep it from loosening. Have had them on my Tele for over a year with no sign of failure.

Dunlop strap locks use ball bearings that over time fall out and then the lock fails...

Schaller locksleave black greese all over everything if you are not careful...a real buymmer for white shirts plus they are prone to making noise which can often be heard thought the guitar. On top of that I have a Schaller strp button that was almost cut in half because of the strap end lock...never again!

Clip locks break...and the straps kind of suck for anything heavier than a Strat...

I use clip locks on about... 11 of my 13 guitars, theyve never broken on me. EVER.

If you replace them every so often it's fine but why bother if there is a better lock out there!

Ineresting, in >15 years, I have never once had to replace a Schaller lock, only retighten the strap pins mounted on the guitar. If you don´t mind me asking, was this a one time thing or on a regular basis, and why did it need replacement?

All of my straplocks have outlasted the strap that I "dedicated" to that guitar, all of which eventually broke at the leather ends.

Lok Strap fan too. Simple, discreet and inexpensive. I have to admit, if I gigged (I don't) I'd buy something more resistant but if you're just playing around the house? Outstanding.

I find Schaller and Dunlops nut to come loose. I am always checking and feel insecure with them.

I have used the leather ones on my 77 Les Paul with total confidence all these years.

I've always wondered if putting Loctite (automotive bolt adhesive) would help solve this problem. That's what it's meant for on an engine block, to keep the vibrations from wiggling the bolt loose. I may have to try that one out:scratchch

^^ I´f you´ll look through the thread, that´s exactly what many of us do

BTW its also what Schaller has recommended for literally decades and was origiinally clearly stated on the little folded instruction sheet they used to include. That sheet was eventually discontinued because nobody ever read it anyway and everybody was still complaining about the nut coming loose to Schaller Customer Support.

So when you really think about, anybody who's Schaller nuts are coming loose has primarily themselves to blame, especially if the´ve been around long enough (15 years or more) to actually own one of those slips but never read it.

I have worn out the strap end more than once, it either gets to where it won't pull up enough to make it out of the strap buttom OR it comes loose and won't lock in.

I do have one set of schallers that for whatever reason the strap end dig into the strap button on such a fasion that it actually, over the course of about a year sawed the button almost in half before I noticed it!

I've done plenty of gigs with Lok Straps and they never fail. I don't jump off the drum riser or roll around on the floor too much, but if I did I'm sure they'd hold up better than my back or knees.

I have a pair of them, but they get loose and turn, to the point I do not trust those either.

I've been using Schallers on every guitar I've owned since 1996 (probably over 30 guitars) and I've never had one failure. I simply trim a bit off of my straps so the lock fits better, then I tighten the nut very tightly....I don't even bother with loctite. I usually hold the sides of the "cup" with a set of pliers (use a cloth to prevent damaging the finish) then I tighten the nut as tight as I can muster. Then I check the buttons on my guitars and the straps ever so often (probably once or twice a year).

I just don't understand people who have problems with Schallers. Install them with some common sense, tighten the parts in a non-girly fashion, and inspect them periodically....and all should be good.
