Re: best strat for under $1100.00

I bought this for exactly $1100. And I'm as happy as a pig in slop with it! I just gigged with it tonight and the various tones I can get from it are amazing. For a couple songs I switched to my old Aria (customized with Duncans & DiMarzio's so it sounds great for some stuff) and almost instantly my hand starting cramping up from the super-flat neck. I plugged the Strat back in and everything was right with the universe again. :)

thats a nice guitar there Gamera!

Thanks! I always wanted a genuine Strat and by the time I had saved enough pennies to buy one they had finally started making my dream Strat. Amazing-sounding noiseless single coils + a crunchy 'bucker (similar in tone to a Duncan JB actually) + super smooth ebony neck + locking tuners + eye candy in my favorite color. Usually when I spend that kind of money on anything, that little voice of reason kicks in and says "are you sure you can afford this...is this really the best time for this purchase?" This time my little voice said "buy it, stupid! Buy the damn thing before I do! It's EXACTLY what you've been waiting for!!!"

Holy wow... NIIICE! American Deluxe FMT, right? :32:

As for a stock, brand new strat for close to or under 1100 personally I'd get this: http://www.fender.com/products/show.php?partno=0101302 but with 2-tone burst on it... they really worked some magic with that awesome neck and the pickups.

If you go used you can find some awesome guitars or really cheap. I bought this about 2 years ago for 700 with a case, they went for about 11-1200 new!

best one is a used one...

Yeah, amen to that! There's really no reason to buy a new guitar today considering how much money you can save on the used market...

I will also agree. I do not remember the last time I bought a new axe and I really doubt I will buy a new one in the future.

Re: best strat for under $1100.00

MIA Deluxe Strat in Aged Cherry Burst is what I would get. They also come with the new SCN pickups and S1 switching system now.

Used is the way to go, but sometimes you have to settle for a different finish or fretboard than what you might choose for a brand new one. BTW, I picked up a used '98 MIA Deluxe Strat in Crimson Transparent/rosewood for $465. It plays like a dream.

Re: best strat for under $1100.00

Well, depends on what kind of sound you're going for. Me, I'm a vintagey kind of guy. Best deal out there right now for new vintage style Strats is the Jimmie Vaughn signature model. Basically a '57 style (deep contour body), great 50's V neck, USA tuners and bridge assy, Tex-Mex pickups (sound more "classic" than TX Specials), $550 brand new. I'm gettin' one today :D

Re: best strat for under $1100.00

Here is the deal...I very strongly disl;ike most non Custom Shop Fender necks, I also really dislike most stock Fender pickups made past about 1970, plus I think that most newer Fender guitars are very overpriced. The closest thing Fender has to what I want is an older Jeff Beck Strat but it's still got the wrong pups, bridge, and tuners, plus if I had it perfect, it would have a maple fingerboard. I just gonna build it myself...I can choose all the right parts, have the neck done just right, plus I can do a real nitro finish on it! That is unless somebody has a real good idea real fast!

A friend of mine has a Warmoth compound radious neck on his Strat and it's some sweet.

If I was to go the custom route, I'd go Warmoth as I don't have the tools to machine bodies. I'd also be building a custom Jagstang with forearm and belly cuts, plus a TOM-Stoptail bridge.

Re: best strat for under $1100.00

Go the Warmoth route. For that kind of money, you can get a Strat exactly the way you want it. Off the shelf Fenders just don't do it for me for several reasons. I would never buy one because of the narrower, thinner necks and smaller frets. So I got a neck and body from Warmoth, and I'm in the process of putting together a killer Strat for much less than $1100. In fact, the neck and body combined cost me less than $500.

I found a Strat 1960 Custom Shop Closet Classic used for $1199, before negotiating. I hope I can snag it.
