best string gauge for a floyd rose

i hope i am posting this in the right place

i have 2 guitars one of them has a set of .10's and has non-floyd bridge tuned to standard( i LOVE this guitar) and i have another guitar with a floyd rose that has a set of .9's on it that is tuned half a step down

the set of .9's is really starting to irritate me because when i play i tend to push a little too hard on the strings and i end up getting a sharp note because of how thin the .9's are.

but i heard that putting a gauge thicker than a .9 on a floyd rose is not good for the trem, is this true or am i totally safe putting gauge .10 on it

You can put .10's on a Floyd. With the same tuning, you'll have to increase the spring tension to compensate. Take care that the bridge plate is parallel to the face of the guitar when you're done.

I have always had much better results using 10s with the LoPro Edge in my JEMs and 9s on my OFR guitars. Something about 10s and the OFR makes getting the balance right a royal pain in the butt!

I use 10-52s. No problem at all.

IMO there is no such thing as a particular gauge being right for floyds, but all of us have our preferences. if u have already gotten used to playing with 9s (tuned half step down), u might feel the whammy bar being stiffer to ur liking when u change to 10s and adjust/increase the spring tension to counter the added string pull. so those whammy tricks u pulled off earlier might need little more muscle than earlier.

9's 1/2 step down, two springs on the claw. Three springs if you want less flutter when you dig in.

I use 10-52's 1/2 step on multiple floyds. Just give 'er a little adjustment and you'll be good!

I like 9s because I find them easiest to use with two springs which feel the best to me and allow me to slap the bar for the 'flutter' sound.
