I use GHS Boomers DYM (13-56, wound 3rd) on a Strat (25.5 scale length) in drop C with no flop. I like the wound third for chording, as it makes that string really stand out compared to an unwound one, but it sucks for bending.
And like has already been said, when you change guages, you need to setup your guitar. Also, if you're having problems with buzzing and/or an unusually high action, you may need a new nut cut with shallower string grooves. Of course, you may need your nut cut just to fit the strings in the grooves in the first place.
