Best thread ever JB like Dimarzio

Pretty much everyone with a right mind agrees the JB is the greatest pickup of all time (well, along with the SuperD). That holds true especially with 250K pots.
That said, some people wonder about a more full low bass presence maybe?.

I have heard the Tone Zone sound very similar to the JB, I don't understand how people can say that pickup is dark and muddy.

For somebody with over 9200 post I would expect u to have more knowledge about gear and not be so ignorant. I expect post like this from newbs but the only exuse I can find for you is your an idiot or mean. Ignorance is definatly not the case. You ha e been on here enough to pickup a thing or too. So it must be stupidity (unable to learn) and if that is the case then you have my deepest sympathy.

Just face up to it, I and many, many others use a TZ and get a great friggin tone from it with no mud so stop blaming a dimarzio for your rigs problems:14:
Lone phantom has a mod that makes a TZ sound exactly like a JB. he uses a cap to lower the bass end of the TZ.

its all about things working together. no pup is inherently muddy or shrill even if they have a tendency to sound that way more frequently than other pups. its what else is in the signal chain. i had a tz in an ibz and thru my fender twin it was muddy. same guitar thru my marshall was great and not muddy at all. over all i liked that fender amp better than the marshall its just the tz in that ibz was not a good match for the amp.

bottom line is just cause it works for you and sounds great, that doesnt mean some one else is gonna like it. applies to just about everything out there.

No i was agreeing with you that i dont understand those people either about the TZ being muddy? and they should check their rig. I upadated my post so it reads right.:cool2:
I never had a TZ mud out on me but many say it does?

It's picking technique IMHO. A light touch sounds like poop with a Tone Zone.

The Tone Zone prefers a harder and more percussive attack.

Guys with a light touch usually find that it's not that sweet of a pickup either.

The JB is sweeter but responds similarly to a more aggressive pick attack.

The Tone Zone and the JB are clearly brothers from different mothers.

I disagree about the JB being the best pup. I don't know how to put it, but it just doesn't sound quite right to me.

I've never had problems with the Distortion. It's pretty middy, and it just sounds tight.

I think the JB is a terrible pickup. Granted trying it in a dot was a bad choice, but I was going for that rock n roll sound. Farty and no bass at all, seemed to lack any real definition. Stock Epi pickups were better and the custom 8 was a huge upgrade.

your supposed to put it in a Superstrat with a Marshall Superlead/JCM, and an overdrive. Absolutely amazing ..best sounding pickup I think i may have ever heard. I really havent ever heard anything that comes even close in a Start bridge except the '78. I always want a more full bass from it, but with 250K pots, its absolute pure bliss.

By the way to some of the guys here who can't come to grips with this post; the intent was paertially to show that the JB is still the standard, it was also to honor Duncan, and the JB..and people want to try and get a pickup that does what the JB does, but maybe does something in addition, { I've heard the Breed with an A8 is the "oerfect JB", or that the AT-1 is a great ":JB" with 500K pots. All of which works to a degree, but to which a few guys have responded there is nothing like the JB, and that if you wanbt a JB, get a JB.
Point is, why is everyone trying to do the "perfect JB"? Is there such a thing? Its all a testament to the fact that the JB , often imitated, cannot in actuality be duplicated?
