This should end THAT particular debate once and for all, as the result are undeniable:

Re: Best tonewood video ever

Yep......that comment was specifically based on the content of the vid.

Re: Best tonewood video ever

ANYONE who thinks this debate will end is just wrong.
Opinions will fluctuate until the end of time.
We are talking about a TREE... it grew a certain way, and no other tree grew that exact same way.
Since the material is not consistent - all arguments are moot.

Re: Best tonewood video ever

Funny- but they are right. Most people will comment without actually watching it (I scanned through). But I heard a difference around 2k. :)

Oh, don't be so serious.

You are actually correct (I can't believe I'm saying that and that I actually agree with you...ooo, bite my tongue) that opinions will always vary, and there will always be differences even within the same wood type. But there are some useful generalities that can be applied to different types of wood...eg: mahogany = rich, warm tone, maple = bright, etc.

Let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Re: Best tonewood video ever

Well, the problem is when someone uses a sweeping generalization like BEST. There is no best. It's what YOU like. That's all. I've heard this question for decades. My stock reply is "What's the best peanut butter?".

If someone had actually pinned it down 100 years ago, all guitars for the last 100 years would be made from THE BEST wood, whatever species had been determined. Same with pickups, What's the best pickup? There is no best - it's what you like.

I found the amount of attack and spank really surprising. :D

I guess you haven't watched the video !

Re: Best tonewood video ever

I skipped this thread last night , thinking it was another attempt at disproving tonal variance. lol (glad it's not)

Re: Best tonewood video ever

Sorry, the video won't load for me, but I assume by ending the tonewood debate you mean someone finds another way to validate their opinion while ignoring facts presented by the other side?

Personally I think expensive woods sound better, not for any tonal properties they might impart, but because you have to be a serious guitar player to buy an expensive wood. I tend to find serious guitar players for the most part sound better.

I'll wait until the video works for you before I comment. You might be surprised!
