All right. I'm going to narrow it down to one amp:

My modded Deluxe Reverbs with a Celestion G12H30 speaker in each.

I can rehearse with a DR...and I can gig with it too.

And if I need it louder I just bring two.

They're the most comfortable and versatile amps I own.

But they have been modded for a little more gain, reverb on both channels and a Marshall/Bassman tone stack with two .02 caps rather than .1 and .047.

As far as the best in History............. I don't know I can only speak of what I have owned and played thru.

I currently have a Marshall which I love, a Super Reverb which I love, a Deluxe Reverb, which I love and a Bogner Shiva which I love.

I also agree with Lew that for cleans its awfuly hard to be a good Twin. I have played thru a few Dumbles which are awesome, but not for me. Fortunately I don't have to pick just one, so I will keep all that I have, but if I did have to pick one....... I'd quit playing. I like variety.

I know it sounds nuts, but over the years, I've owned around 90 amps. There's a lot of great great amps out there. I base my choice of the Bogner on the fact that it's capable of dozens of tones that beat single channel amps.....and can switch between any 6 tones you can tweeze out of it.....all switchable.
It's not for everyone, but it's definitely for Marshall lovers.

there's just so many great ones out there, '59 bassman, '62 vibrolux, '62 bassman, tweed deluxe, ab165 bassman, dual showman, supersonic, marshall JMP, deluxe reverb, all the botique **** out there

I can't choose. Don't make me. But i will say it's not a peavey, mesa, new marshall, or orange IMO

though oranges can sound pretty good, i could never get a real great sound out of one

Gerald Weber once said that the BF Deluxe would be his choice for the ultimate "desert isle" amp if you could only have one. i would agree for reasons previously stated....great clean and dirty tone and it has two "pedals" built into it. i would include the Princeton and Vibrolux in that category too., dependingon what your ultimate volume needs are for a single amp. Small enough not to kill you when played in a smaller practice space, but big enough to gig. Fenders get to be pretty brutal on the ears starting with the Super and Pro. Twin in a practice space? fagidaboutit....lol Lew....do you find that when you put that very efficient Celestion in a Deluxe that you can get pretty close to Vibrolux volume?

The ultimate desert isle tube amp would be that 600-something watt Blue Voodoo so rescuers will be able to hear it from afar to rescue me! Then I can get back to a good-toned amp like the '59 Bassman, it's offshoots (Marshalls), and the Deluxe Reverb :chairfall

But there isn't any electricity on a desert island! :confused:

I'm pretty much with Joe with his take on the better tube amps out there. Bogner ended my search, but my style is probably much different than most folks here.
