Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

Since you love Tom Petty, there's one clear choice......Vox.

Get an AC-30CC in the 1-12 or 2-12 configuration. Fairly inexpensive and very good tone.

Most of your favorite bands use AC-30's, right?

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

Check out the Crates, i've been quite fond of the Palamino. I'll probably end up getting one when it's time for a new amp and funds are sufficient. They're of the least expensive out there. For those, i see billy gibbons using them, one of the biggest gear heads in rock history. That means a little to me.

it's a little offtopic, but a high efficent 212 extension cab may bring you
the clean headroom

I was gonna mention taking a look at the Ceriatone site.....he makes a Matchless DC-30 clone that isn't overly pricey & would get ya' right there !

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

Definately look at VOX style EL84 amps as it seems to be what your looking for. Heaps of options from Crate to VOX to Laney to even Ceriatone DC-30 or AC-30 clones.

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

i do love the tone of el-84's...don't know why i didn't think of the AC-30cc...i'll also look into the Ceriationes (do they have a site?).

i need to compare them to the DRRI and Vibrolux...to figure out what tones i really do like the best for my playing style!?

the laneys have always intrigued me too...looks like i need to haul petey around to a few shops here real soon...i hate trying to play in shops with everyone else getting their shred on while i'm trying to hear what an amp sounds like in a "normal" application!

as far as the tech 21...i used to own a tech...and it is excellent for what it does...but i gotta admit...i like the blues jr tone better.

the budda would be pimp...but so is the price...i'm not sure on the genz-benz prices...but i bet they're up there too!?

thanks for the suggestions...if you think of anymore...keep them coming!

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

the ceriatones look awesome...and some of the clips sounded right up my alley!! however, it looks like they are definitely gonna be outta my range, even used. :banghead:

it looks like $500 bucks is gonna be my max money ceiling on this!!! (i've bought ALOT of golf gear this summer...lol!)

i keep forgetting about the Traynor's as well!

time to do some more used $$$ research!

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

If your budget was higher, I was going to suggest a Mission Aurora or kit from Mission Amps. Or possibly a Celtic from Scott.

that would be freaking awesome...but yeah...the $$$'s aren't available right now! maybe someday!?!?

Hiya Hoss!

I'd look around for a SF vibrolux, and get it 'blackfaced'. That'll give you the clean headroom you're after along with a nicer tone than a blues deluxe. The blues deluxe will benefit greatly from a speaker swap if you head that way.

The Peavey delta blues 2x10 and 1x15 are also very good amps for the money, and may suit your needs very well.

+1 bro. My music school has a couple o' vintage Silverface amps that I use. I use the Twin Reverb (some mods, NMV, JBLs) for band practices so I can get the headroom and just drive using my TS-9. Then they have a silverface Deluxe Reverb combo with a reissue jensen and it really kicks too. I can just imagine how the vibrolux sounds like - best of both worlds with that. I just like the way the Twin sounds and the Vibrolux wasn't taken care of nearly as well as the Twin. My friend just bought a 2X10 Peavey Delta Blues a few months ago and it sounds killer too. So good luck! I think ure best bet would be blackfaced SF vibrolux or similar

I tend to forgot that cheap in the US is alot cheaper then cheap in Australia. A fender pro junior is the only amp you could get in AUS for $500 and usually they are more which is why I find Ceriatones and Celtic Amps cheap compared to big brand amps are in aus.

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

looks like a deal is almost done on a Traynor YCV40WR and a 1x12 extension cab...the amp is for sure...i'm still working on the cab!

thanks for reminding me about all the good deals out there!!!

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

Take a look at this Mike:

http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=308300

He had it up for sale a while back & got no bites........might be able to wiggle in the price & it "looks" like a cool amp :)

I can weigh in on the Twin/Plexi as an incredible amp, though my buddy's amp is the newer one with 4 inputs and no blend feature. The 4 input works out better to get a true two channel ablility(aby pedal). The amp has lots of gain on hand, great cleans and the ablity to change out all octal powertubes without rebiasing. And the build is impeccable.

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

OOOPs........I just read the Traynor thread & the POST DIRECTLY ABOVE MINE :smack:

Re: Best tube amp in the 30watt range on a budget?!?

from the description...that amp does sound killer!!! but i doubt he would have had the wiggle room to enable me to get a head cab for it and a speaker cab!?
