Im planing on selling some stuff and buying another amp since im pretty happy with all my guitars now.

Anyone have any suggestions? Im looking for something with great overdrive.

Btw, Heads are nice, but by the time you get a head and cab you have $1000 just to get the amp working. So im looking for a nice combo amp.

Possible options are, Fender blues JR, Fender HRD(With a little budget adjustment, OUCH), and Im not quite sure what else. I've never seen a JCM800 combo so...

They're out there. Hard to find now but you may find some on eBay. They're just combo versions of the heads.

If the head alone is out of my price range, im sure the combo will be.

had a blues jr, it was ok but wanted more power. 15 watts gets loud but there is not a lot of headroom there, but great little tube amps
have a blonde hot rod deluxe now, i like it but am thinking a marshall or mesa so i may be selling mine :)
the jcm800 combo, get ready to spend $700++ i would say as i have been looking at them.

hope that helps!

I know the feeling. I want the 4104 combo or 4010 so bad but with building a new house right now, that ain't happening. :yell: :)

What kind of tone are you looking for out of this amp? That will help a ton.

Im pretty flexable, If I get a fender, I want a fender tone. If I get a high gain amp, I want a marshall tone... And so on.

You know what I mean, right?

No, not really.

What kind of tone do you want to be getting out of this amp you're going to be purchasing? Do you want to use it for high-gain, cleans, blues, what?

Re: best tube combo amp around and under $400?

Oh, I see what ya mean, Well I want moderate to high gain. (Not megadeth levels, but enough to be able to shread on if nessary.)

Cleans are a nice afterthought tho.

I'd go with a Traynor, if you can swing the extra cash. Look on eBay for the one that runs EL34's, the blue one. Model number escapes me at the moment, but that amp kicks ass!

Crate Blue Voodoo's are actually pretty damn nice for the price, as well, but a bit higher gain than you wanted.

Re: best tube combo amp around and under $400?

The blue voodoo doesn't look like what Im wanting really, I have a fear of crates, and their relibility issues.

I really dont want to blow the budget out of the water. I mean, I dont want to go over $500. Because then I'll be spending money I don't have, and Im sure im not the only one here who knows what that means.

Also, the amp needs to be able to take overdrive and distortion pedals well.
Would rather have a good solid amp, and drive it with pedals, altho Its always great to have a amp with a great overdrive right off the bat.
