Best weight for a Les Paul? Whats your thoughts?

Re: Best weight for a Les Paul? Whats your thoughts?

Of my eleven Pauls, I have nine that weigh between 8.9 and 9.2 lbs. The four Historics are solid, the two 1960 Classics are weight-relieved, and the two Supremes and the Elegant are chambered. The two Classic Antiques from the "Guitar Of The Week" are chambered bantamweights at 7.8 and 8.2 lbs.

As a reference, my G&L ASAT Deluxe, with a maple over mahogany body is 9.6 lbs. It has the DF Vibrato. I've also got an ash G&Ĺ Legacy strat that is pretty hefty too. That's the heaviest I would want to go for any guitar.

So around 9.0 lbs. is a good weight, and I'm in the "lighter is better" camp. I've never liked the super heavy Paul's of decades past. But weight should not be the determining factor in choosing a guitar. I place a much higher value on a guitar that resonates. Give me the one that I can feel the vibrations in the headstock when I strum an open chord. My Historics vibrate like crazy, and they are my best-sounding Les Pauls.
