You can get a large diapham Condenser for cheaper ? better suited for the
job. I'm looking to get a Studio Projects B1 for $99 or a CAD GX2200
for around $79 You need a 48v phantom power to run them,But I think
I remember you mentioning you had or where getting a ART unit. The
studio projects seems like a jack of all trade's .Great for vocals and
you can mic a loud amp with it to :cool3:

The best overhead drum mics that I've heard for the money are AKG's C1000S. They're a small diaphragm condenser and if memory serves correctly can be picked up for about $200. They're a great all around mic. I've used it on vocals, horns, percussion, acoustic guitar and mandolin. It just works really well for all of those applications.

Yeah I would prefer condensor mic's, the Beta's are extended range which is better than a standard SM57 but not ideal. I can cut out bottom and boost the high's in the mix but I'd rather have the broader frequency range to begin with.
I have a PreSonus 2-Channel Pre so the phantom power is not a problem, I actually have it on the board as well but outboard adds some tube warmth which is nice. Unfortunately I have maxed my budget so I am on the cheap for mic overheads. I'd love a pair of AKG C-1000 mics but I don't know if I can swing it by the end of next week.
Nady makes the CM-90 that looks like a fantastic deal and they're designed to be used as overheads which is great I can score a pair for dirt but I have no experience with their mics so I am a little leery.

The thing about mics is, the more toys you have to play with, the more options that you have. There are actually quite a few really decent low budget condenser mics being produced right now. It used to be that you had to spend part of a trust fund to afford a studio quality mic, but that's changed, which i think is for the better. I've not had the opportunity to work with the Nady models, but they very well may be quite suitable for what you're going to do with them. It's not really about the mic quality as much as it is about placement and input. The old saying that you can't polish a turd is still relevent.
