Between these two, which one would you go for?

I`m talking used here as they both fall into the same price range at an average of $800.

Peavey Wolfgang USA standard model.

ESP KH-2.

Let me know which one is the standout here and why?
Thanks!

I personally like the ESP because it has a very fast neck and good pickups- a real metal/hard rock machine. I don't know too much about the Wolfgang except that I don't like the way it looks. That's just my opinion, though. Sorry if I couldn't help ya.

Peace.

If you're looking at the Wolfgang already then it's probably worth considering the Music Man Axis too. Really nice guitars.

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

I would look into the peavy. the EVH guitars seem to hold their value. especially if it has a figured top. The thing is, you may not like the neck. Any EVH guitar I have played, MM or peavey has had a thick neck.

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

Yeah, I think the neck is slightly unusual, but it grows on a lot of people. Play them first to see.

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

the peavey for its neck

but try it first :/ its kind of an aquired taste, real thick but the guitar itself sounds quite huge.

the trem isnt back routed either which is a godsend

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

I say ESP. Maybe that's just because the KH-2 is the first guitar I ever really wanted, though :)

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

I had a Peavey Wolfgang special and I loved the neck. I don`t mind fat necks at all. All of your comments matter here, good or bad.

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

Wolfgang. The fact that it doesn't have emgs, a floating floyd or a big chunk of maple running through the body are major advantages, tonewise.

The neck may quite thick, but it's not very wide, which makes it easy to grip. Both the wolfgang and the axis are extremely playable guitars.

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

KH-2 that thing tears it up. i think it has more features directed towards metal. from the looks of ur pic (BLS) it seems like ur into metal and man do those EMG's sqeal especial for thos pinch harmonics/overtones.

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

I'd go with the Wolfgang. The neck is one of the nicest I've ever played, although I would disagree that it is overly thick. I would say the neck is of medium thickness. It's certainly not a baseball bat-style neck. The Wolfgang has the nicest tone of any Floyd Rose guitar I've tried, it doesn't sound thin or harsh at all. If you love high output, you'll probably like the Wolfgang pickups, they are very clear and maintain their sound even under heavy distortion. If you don't like the pickups, they are easy to sell, and you could replace them with something else. Overall, I'd rather have the Wolfgang if it were me.

im an esp freak, but i say go wolfgang

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

Are you NUTS? ESP KH-2! No offense, but EVH seems to "jump ship" quite often. Kramer to Music Man to Peavy to Who Knows What? Hammet has been playing ESPs for a good chunk of time now. I ask you this- If a Signature Guitar was really on the mark, WHY would they go switching brands every couple of years? Besides, the skull and crossbone inlays kick ass on the wolfgang's.

Re: Between these two, which one would you go for?

I have played both guitars and both are nice. The KH neck is wide/thin, not Ibanez Wizard thin, but none the less. It's a comfortable guitar to play and has great tone. The Peavey, or the EB/MM if you prefer, IMO, are some of the nicest guitars on the market. The asymetrical neck design that EVH prefers is comfortable and fast at the same time. I prefer the Wolfgang pickups, but as someone said earlier, that's a preference. I don't like the Axis pups as much, but again they're changeable. You should play them all and decide for yourself. All three guitars are great instruments and you won't be disappointed no matter what you decide. I would choose the two EVH designed guitars over the KH, but I've gotten to play all three of them and I like the them better. After you play them all, come back and tell us which you prefer.

Ignoring 'endorser loyalty' issues for a moment, the fact is that EVH is EVH. Kirk Hammett would be the first to admit that he isn't worthy to be a pimple on Ed's arse.

Aside from such fashion-related issues, the main problem I have with the ESP is that is a maple neck-thru. To me, there are two circumstances where you might want a guitar with that much maple running through it's centre: Playing in a large band with keyboards, or playing in a very gainy sounding two guitar metal band. In those cases, the extra maple (and the emgs) will help you cut through at solo time. Of course, your rythm tone will sound a bit pointy, too, but that may not be so bad if you have a rythm player in your band with a warm sounding guitar made from, say, mahogany.

If you play in a single guitar band, I'd suggest you stay away from a maple neck-thru. You'll find your rythm tone will sound pushy and annoying, and won't fill out the overall sound very pleasingly. The wolfgang, with it's basswood back, will sound more balanced. with a stronger low end.

The best way to figure out which you like is to play each for a decent period of time and see which fatigues the ears least. I'll bet it'll be the peavey, but who knows what your reaction will be. Trust your ears.

I heard he switched to peavey after he banged Sterling Ball's wife. Not a lot to do with the guitar...
