Biased my Amp, wow.

Corporal Bias
It was fairly simple, I still don't think I'm scoring a ten though, because my tubes must have gotten mis-matched since I didn't bias them as soon as I put them in (4 months ago). I can see slight variation in power (blue glow/flame) when I turn off the lights.

Now everything sounds much more, real, my fulltone "ultimate octave" actually gives now and goes over the low volume/muffled speaker sound. I really used to have to crank my amp up to like 3.5 to get it past "the darkside" and it was really freakin loud then. (I know I've already shaved off the ability to hear some higher frequencies, not good at age 16). Anyway, my EQ has become much more present and shapable.

I can now also hear the imperfections. My wah has been a punk for the last year with it's scratchy pot, and it's been getting weaker too, it used to be all squacky and solid with lots of expression and clicky depth, but no it's all watery sound and too smooth.

And my pickups, which I still haven't replaced, sound even more like cheap overwound dark strat pups. I played a MIA strat through orange head in Music go round when I was checkin out the fulltone stuff, and I really digged the neck pup for it's knocky hollow woody sound (play slight palm mute with neck pup). When I got home, I played my strat and it was just a bit less lively and flatter sounding attack. anyway I just bored, i don't think i've been here in like months. Anyway peace.

Re: Biased my Amp, wow.

did you do it yourself? If so, congrats. If not, congrats on getting it done at all.

Re: Biased my Amp, wow.

did it myself after reading on web, theres a site that has it specifically for my amp I'll try and dig it up. I basically just turned a pot to a specific suggested starting number then adjusted it to my preference. Could be very usefull to other deville users here.

Groove-e-delic Brinton. Congratulations!

(That blue glow has nothing to do with bias, BTW...it's just gas in the tube. 6L6's do that sometimes. They're supposed to be a vacuum but as we all know, there's no such thing as a perfect vacuum.)

That's a great link !! All the amps I currently own are fixed Bias :blackeye:
I think I'm gonna have to do something about that. :33: Congrats !!

Cool, I've been reading up on all this stuff, and I'm really interested. I always get interested in this kinda stuff electronics.-pickups,amps,speakers,tubes,moding xboxs,wah-wah's,headphone amps etc.

I guess I got a thing for electronics all of a sudden, right before college too, just in time for further education.

Re: Biased my Amp, wow.

IIRC, the bias set point on hotrod devilles is 60mV at the test point. be careful, though. they use a cheap ass trimmer pot for the bias. i have heard stories of them giong bad, but wuick when lpayed with. sometimes without any adjustment.
