:eyecrazy: Hey all i want to get that john mayer sound can seymour duncan make the Big Dipper pickup like he has or is there a duncan pickup that is real close to that sound .Thanks

Re: Big dipper sound

I'm pretty sure he doesn't use those big dippers an awful lot these days. On the live in la dvd he uses a number of strats that don't have those big dippers and I could be wrong but think he only uses his signature series on heart of life, thats off the top of my head so don't quote me. He uses that guitar he calls 'the black one' which have pick-ups wound by the fender custom shop to sound like a vintage 60s strat I believe. Anyway, I'll let other forums members expand on this but to get the current mayer sound I don't think big dippers are the way forward anymore

Re: Big dipper sound

I always thought the vintage fender sound came from the ash bodies they use to use? Maybe it's misinformation, anyone know?

Re: Big dipper sound

The ash body definitely makes a difference. The best sounding strat I own is my ash hardtail with SSL-1's.
