Big Muff Owners: Tone/Wicker or Not?

My choice for an over-the-top fuzz pedal will be an EHX product; however, I'm torn between the Big Muff Pi and the Big Muff Pi with Tone/Wicker.

I've heard the Big Muff in person - and I like it; I have not heard the Tone/Wicker version up close and personal.

Does the Tone/Wicker version accurately mimic the sustain and volume levels of the Big Muff? How big is the Tone/Wicker case, comparatively?

Which pedal provides the most versatility, volume and verve?

Thanks.

Check out clips of it on Youtube, the Tone/Wicker version sounds more musical and smooth. I've been gassing for one with the Tone/Wicker.

I'm way ahead of ya. I checked our Gearmandude's demos (he has several on the Big Muff with Tone Wicker - he love's it) and a host of other demos; however, it's difficult to find demos where a single-coiled guitar is used.

I like what I "hear" of the Big Muff with Tone Wicker, but not having heard one live, using a Strat or Tele, I defer to those who may have personal experience.

Not to hijack the thread but have you checked out a Way Huge Swollen Pickle? It does massive, over-the-top fuzz. Might not be what you're looking for but may be worth checking out.

I can't offer anything else other than saying to stick with that. A demo of the big muff with humbuckers just doesn't show the potential of that pedal. Even as a humbucker user 80% of the time I'll admit that pedal sounds 10 times better with single coils.

I have no experience with the tone wicker but a few people I know who have played it don't like it. They say it's more smooth and fits in better musically but it doesn't have the perfect muff sound the original has.

Really? Hmmm. Duly noted.

Alex_F:

Yes, I did; but it's double my budget.

"smooth" and "fits in better musically" sound good to me. Nothing, except another original, will sound as good as The Original.
