Big Muff question

Just bought an Electro Harmonix Big Muff reissue (USA) and it doesn't sound quite right. It's very noisey and doesn't sound very good. I'm trying to get that Stooges/Mudhoney sound and it just isn't there. Should I exchange it, or is that typical of Big Muff's? Also, is there a certain amp setting I should use so it's not so noisey?

Re: Big Muff question

I have green Sovtek Big Muff and it does the Mudhoney thing perfect I have also used several of the new USA reissues and used to have 3 different vintage models they all sounded pretty good. What is it not doing that you think it should? The first thing that comes to my mind is that it looks like ALL your guitars have buckers...do get the Mudhoney thing going on you need a Mustang, a Hagstom (I love mine!!!), or a Strat (in a pinch), and at Strat would be great for the Stoogies thing...that might be the biggest thing...

Re: Big Muff question

Big Muff's are very fuzzy and very noisy/hissy. If yours is very fuzzy and very noisy/hissy it's probably working fine. :) Try a new battery. If you can find a carbon 9 volt battery rather than an alkaline the pedal might sound smoother. Lew

Re: Big Muff question

It was the battery :smack: I put in a new Danelectro "vintage style" battery and now it seems ok. You're right about the humbuckers, I forgot Mark Arm does the single coil thing. However, I thought the Stooges guitarist played an SG, maybe not. I'll have to dig up some pix.

Re: Big Muff question

A buddy of mine uses a Big Muff into a DS-1. He says the DS-1 smooths out the Big Muff and gives it a more natural and musical tone...I think he's right.

Not to thread-jack, but..

Anyone familiar with The Raveonette's song "Little Animals?" That has got to be a Big Muff, right?
