Big Muff which version to buy???

Re: Big Muff which version to buy???

The older Big Muffs I've owned were all different.

Truth be told, I honestly don't miss them.

+1.

I've never heard two Muffs that sound the same.

That said, go for the new Little Big Muff.

I haven't even played one but I hear they're just kick ass. I'd definantly pick one up!

I used to have one of the Little Muffs, the thing that was the size of a LPB-1 with an on/off switch and a fuzz knob. It sounded cool when it worked.

I had one too. It went strait from too bassy death fuzz to cat's nails on a chalkboard highs. It would've been cool if it had trim pots so you could dial in the tone settings on the switch, but stock I found it pretty useless.

Anyway, the new LBM is a standard Big Muff stuffed in a smaller housing;

Tonally, it's a little bassier than the current NYC re-issue.....roughly between the Russian and NYC in terms of overall tone.

Re: Big Muff which version to buy???

I had the thing for around a year, in that time it maybe was working for a couple weeks. I used it for one show- it just so happened that it was a show I was trying out a friend's Hiwatt rig that sounded like ass. The Little Muff got dropped as I was packing up and ceased to work for a long time thereafter.

Re: Big Muff which version to buy???

I had an american reissue big muff at one point and I hated it. It was very muddy. All bass, and if you used the tone knob to scoop the mids it sounded harsh.

Re: Big Muff which version to buy???

i TRIED a mig muff pi. it was crap, too much bass not enough gain for heavier 60's and 70's stuff

Re: Big Muff which version to buy???

The Pi has a real warm sound to it, even when driven hard. Very bassy too. Killer sustain at times though. It's an odd duck. It works well for certain situations, and completely sucks for others.
