Big Pay Cheque next week!!!!!!!!!!!! Please Help Me Decide!

Well next week is my big pay cheque. I'll be getitng a big double pay cheque of over a grand maybe so its time to buy buy buy! Ive narrowed it down to three things.

1. Taylor acoustic possibly a 310 or a 314ce
2. Gibson Les Paul Classic
3. Fender hot rod deville 2x12 amp.

So far im really debating between the gibson and taylor, the amp if the cheapest of the three and can come anytime later on, but the mroe pricier peices of gear are my top choices but im torn between the two.

On one hand i always dreamed of owning a les paul and now im closer than ever in being able to afford one!

BUT i love playing acoustics and since i dont play in a band having a high end electric might be kind of pointless in my perspective not to mention my amp is not very good and a good amp is a must have follow up purchase. Also i play alot of acoustic lately and see it as something really good for playing by myself.

So thats my dilema let me know what you guys think.

If I were you I would get the lp and amp at the same time, but that means you need to wait a bit longer. Try out a lp at your local guitar shop with possible amps you want to get. This while probably make the waiting it bit more bareable as, you will need to research anyways on getting a new amp. Doing like this allows you great tone from the amp and guitar at the same time.

What do you already have? For all I know you could be playing a $100 wal-mart guitar through a "first act" amp.

If you already have a good guitar that you like, get an amp.
If you already have a good amp that you like, get a guitar.

If you hate everything you have, save up and buy a whole new setup.


Kinda makes me wonder why you'd need to ask someone.

Acoustic would be my pick. A good acoustic will inspire you to play it more often, and as a result your overall technique will improve - electric and acoustic.

Amp = Tone

If your amp isn't decent there is no point in having a flashy axe...

But yeah knowing what your gear is would help us choose for you.

Can't speak for you, but if it were me and those were my choices, I'd be getting the Taylor.

If you like acoustics, why not look into getting a Taylor and a decent acoustic amp for it (something like an SWR)? While a Les Paul is a great guitar, you'll want a great amp to play it through too.

What gear do you already own?

Well, Mephis is right, tell us what is your current rig and what do you think about it.

For the moment I would say the Gibby (I know the feeling of dreaming about a real Gibson) or the amp (that would be the more impactfull to get a nice sound that suits you).

But again, A bit more background would help us suggest.

welll in all shame i have a mim strat and a marshall practice amp. The amp is a sad tale indeed. The fender mim strat has a hot rail in the bridge, and my acoustic is a piece of fire wood.

with that little peice of information, I vote on getting a good amp and an american strat that's just my vote! you can get both of those together for about the cost of a les paul

Just a suggestion...

If you want a Les Paul... get a Les Paul Studio Lite. Same body (no binding), slim 60's neck, ebony fretboard and can be had with case for $600-$700 used. IMHO Most bang for the buck available. Also, they come with the same ceramic PU's as the Classic (I am personally not a fan of ceramic, but to each his own). Even if you end up switching out the PU's, you still have the best guitar for the $$$. The Classic comes with 60's neck, but rosewood fretboard. Studio (regular) come with fat '59 neck and no ebony board. You actually have to get up into a Standard to get the combination of features available on the Studio Lite.

dude those Marshall practice amps are terrible. If I had to choose between a crappy acoustic or a Strat into one of those little Marshalls i'd be playing a lot more acoustic too...

Get a good-sounding amp to get you started on a quest for tone!!

Get the Taylor man. Ratherdashing is right!!

Nothing beats the accoustic. I remember I had this korean Takamine G series cutaway accoustic electric. Ohhhh man. I wanted to get it soo bad. But decided to wait in for an American accoustic.

And if you want to play a real LP, just knock on my door, I'll let you play mine. We're in the same city brotha.

I would get the amp, an MIM strat is a decent guitar.
