Bill Lawrence pickups

I'd say the R is a little hotter than 59 and C would be like a non sterile lifeless jazz.

I would say the R is directly between a 59 and a custom!!!

Word about the C. Though I think it has a bit less output than the jazz!

AJ, what would you compare the output of the R with in the Duncan line? And the C? The output numbers Bill gives are in henries and I'm so used to reading a pickup's output in DC resistance I can't get a good feeling on their output level.

I know the XL is screaming hot..lol Played one of those before, and the L is really nice too.

That's such a hard comparison because the Lawrences behave so much differently than normal pickups. They are totally transparent EQ-wise, so the materials/construction of your axe, your rig, and your dynamics when playing all ring true. Neither the R or C is very high in output, the C is fairly close to a single coil in my opinion. The R is lower than the Duncan C5 and PG bridge pickups I've had recent experience with. This pair is very well suited to blues and classic rock oriented playing, IMO.

You are right, they cant be directly compared to anything else except other BL's! They have their own kind of mojo!!!!

Re: Bill Lawrence pickups

Note to self: Don't buy fake BL pickups or you'll have sore nuts and arms too busted up to comfort yourself with :laugh2:.

Hey, I gave it a shot. You're right though, there isn't a Duncan that can really be comparitive of Lawrences. 2 TOTALLY different design and construction methods.

and look at it this way, at least no one threatened your bunghole, but the threads not over yet.

Note to odie, break out the louiville slugger and the sand paper condom!

Re: Bill Lawrence pickups

I want to try a BL or two but the problem I have is which one. I'm looking at the 500's but don't know if I want the R or L. I know the XL is way hot and I don't want a way hot pickup. I love the CC and I like the '59 too. Perhaps the R is what I'm looking for. GAHHH! Too many choices.....lol.
