Billy Gibbons 'Pearly Gates' LP

Re: Billy Gibbons 'Pearly Gates' LP

I saw it the other day and all I can say is "Have Mercy"!

Of all the guys carring the Les Paul torch Billy is the one that should have had a sig LP years ago!

I wonder how close Gibson will actually get...the colour looks great and the flame is really close too.

Yeah I agree--long overdue.

I wonder what pickups Gibson will use...

And I`ve always wondered what finish that is--is it a dark cherry sunburst, tobacco sunburst, dark honeyburst...??? Any thoughts on it`s finish?

Well, Hopefully this means:

Well…that would be a Texas-sized yes! Gibson Custom has already spent many weeks working in conjunction with legendary guitarist and Artist, Billy Gibbons as well as multiple vendors to develop a limited run of arguably the most legendary guitar ever, his beloved Gibson 1959 “Pearly Gates” Les Paul.

Duncans!

Yeah I thought of that too when I saw 'multiple vendors' written--I would think that the appropriate pickups should be SD`s 'Pearly Gates' pickups right?!?

"Ah how how how"!!

Re: Billy Gibbons 'Pearly Gates' LP

This is wicked, because when I think Les Paul, Billy is the first person who comes to mind. That is going to be one wicked guitar if they can get close to the original.

For the price they will most likely be asking, and being a Gibbons fan, I think I'll keep gasing for that gretsch. ;)

Re: Billy Gibbons 'Pearly Gates' LP

if its only $5k ill be really surprised

Re: Billy Gibbons 'Pearly Gates' LP

^^Let's just say I was at the music store yesterday, and a custom shop les paul in a finish similar to that (not sure which model) was going for 6500$. I would also be surprised.

Re: Billy Gibbons 'Pearly Gates' LP

What's special about this model? Is it going to have a unique neck carve, pickups or something else? From the picture in the link, it looks like an aged LP. It's a cool look for sure, but I'm curious to know what's going to make it a "Billy Gibbons signature model" and differentiate from the scads of other aged LP's out there. And as for pickups, will they be SD's or some custom Gibson wind?

I'm not hating on the BG-LP, just wondering.

I've always thought it was Ice Tea burst. Gary Rossington's "Bernice" LP was the same color, but more of a plain top.

I agree also that I'll be surprised if it's only in the $5-6K range. I'm gonna have GAS for this guitar like no other in a long time, but I'm not going to mortgage my house to get it.

Well the color isn't standard, it's like a slightly redder Iced Tea I'd say.

As far as actual specs it should have the correct heel, correct dish (unlike historics), correct neck carve, and with a little luck SD PGs. I think it would be killer if they ran Antiquity-ed PGs for the guitar.

I think the biggest thing is that all these other guys got their sig. model years ago and weren't as "deserving".

Re: Billy Gibbons 'Pearly Gates' LP

My idea is to put together a honeyburst LP Classic loaded with Pearlys and TonePro locking tuners and tailpiece, then put my efforts into stealin' any and all of the Rev's riffs instead!

i'm quoting from The Beauty Of The Burst here - it's described as "strong brown tea-tobaccoburst... probably a faded darkburst with extremely ambered top coat."

it makes me drool every time i see it

Re: Billy Gibbons 'Pearly Gates' LP

the dish is the curve of the maple top. at least, that's what the books i've read call it...

aside from the usual "unique neck carve", they wave magic rubber chickens over them, and rub them allover inside the pickup and control cavities just for good measure. ya kno, so you get that extra bit of mojo.
