Billy Gibbons Red Devil set?

Do they sound more like low output ‘buckers or super hot singles.
An in between sound would be cool, but I’d hope they’d be more like low output ‘buckers with a ‘lil nasty added.

That sounds like a pretty accurate description of Little 59s?
How do they differ?

I haven't tried the set but I was curious enough to listen to a few demos.

Demo with a good amount of gain.

There's another demo I can't find from when they first came out where the playing was almost completely clean. Could've sworn they sounded very single coil like in that demo. Keep in mind single coil sized humbuckers don't sense as much of the string as a PAF would. They almost always have a different sound than humbuckers would because of this. I kind of like that about them. In the price range for a set of these in a pre-made pickguard from 920D, you have a lot of options. I doubt these will be bad.

I'm looking for slightly more spank without just reverting to that overwound Texas Special sound. I may try a Full Sized PG/Cool rail/Cool rail (500k pots), or 2 Little 59s. I wonder
if the little 59s have a bit more bite in the neck than the Red Devil neck?

To me, the Red Devils have more highs than the Little 59s, which are mostly mids. The most highs out of any of the little humbuckers is the Cool Rails, which sounds a lot like the Jazz.

Red Devils more highs than lil 59s? sounds good, but then the duncan E.Q. chart is quite misleading!
i never bothered to try because of the middy EQ the chart shows.
(I agree with your lil 59 description, although i only know the tele version and it's not very SH-1 like.)

Red Devil is more like a 59 than the Little 59 is.

I only have 1 red devil middle, but I love it. It's about a good of a sound from a single coil size humbucker that I could imagine. It's an in between sound. More focused but at the same time more compressed and gainy than a full size.
