I have a bootleg DVD you shoudl really see...killer stuff! I bvelive it's from 1980 and they were hot that night.

As for the pickups, I have a set of Pearly Gates in the Moderne and they are staying. My R8 has a set of Antiquitys and my Yamaha Santana is currently wearing a CC/A2Pro set...all 3 guitars are perfect! I sold the Burst Buckers from my R8 to help fund a Joe Barden Bridge Tele pickup and to be honest I hate the engraving on the Ann Seth's. So, i'll have to pass but good luck.

Christian, you are going to cry when you hear this.......I just found out that Jim Cramer, the stock guru, is God. i made 20% in two months on John Deere, which he recommended back in January, so i went shopping on Ebay. i just missed buying a 1983 Moderne. There were no bids with 11 minutes to go.....i bid the minimum...$2300.......and then my internet connection crapped out. By the time i got back on, the auction had been over for about 2 minutes....and the guy who beat me bid $2325.....aaaaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!!!:crying: There is a nicer one on Ebay, but it is in Australia and the guy has a minmum bid of $2875 (AUS $ 3900) and 5 days left on the auction. So i am buying that circa '98 1954 Les Paul Custom Historic. And ,of course, it will get an Antiquity P90 in the bridge position in short order....and probably a custom shop "staple' pickup in the neck eventually....LMAO

The R4 Customs are cool gutars but nothing is cooler than a Moderne...I say you should hold out and fine one!

Since they are not true Historic guitars the neck profiles are a bit off and so are some of the small details (toggle switch ring, stop bar, etc) but solid Limba neck and body...what a tone! The stock pickups are lame at best but a set of Duncan PAF's sends it into killer tone!

Either way, good lick with your next Gibson...hat sucks you missed on the Moderne...Im sure if you ever get one it will become your number one player!

nah......i have enough trouble choosing between the R9 and the 54 Strat as #1 player....lol. I will get a Moderne eventually, but unfortunately, seeing one for $1k les than what some others have sold for kinda spoils you. i suspect that the R9 will end up being the #1 though......now that i have gotten over being afraid to play it :bigthumb: It sounds great through the new Deluxe RI.

and you are right about the R4. it may be more rare in the market than the Moderne. I have seen 3 or 4 Modernes on Ebay and no R4's. Maybe peopleare just taking the profit on the Modernes nowadays. i have found a total of 2 R4's anywhere since i started looking...a natural that Sam Ash had and the black one that I am buying......the natural was newer, but ya gotta have black:bigthumb: Price was right too. $2500, which is not too shabby for any Historic that is no longer in production. have you seen the prices on some of the 90's Historic Korina Vee's and Explorers lately?:crying:

I have well over a dozen iterviews will Billy..I really am hooked! I will also say that a lot of guys will tell you that the 4 albums I mentioned are not so good...BS! I think those albums are great. Also, if you get XXX there are some live tracks on it and you can hear that JMP-1/"other" amp set up live...around tha tme I belive the "other" amp (s) were the JCM 900's or maybe reissue Plexi's.

Where did you get those interviews from? I would be very interested in those!

+10000, I listen to that cut at least twice a day. Quick question, I thought that Rancho Texicano also had the unremastered cut. Unlike the over reverbed cut on One foot in the Blues?

Brown Sugar is THE tone for a Les Paul and a Mashall in my opinion...the Beano record is great and with out the beano record Billy woundn't have used a Les Paul and a Marahall so I own a tip of the hat to Clapton but for me the first ZZ Top record (and Brown Sugar to name names) has the tone. I also like the 90's stuff as well...very different from the old stuff but very much Billy G.
