Billy Sheehan

Has he had his own thread, yet? I searched, unsuccessfully.

I first encountered his work with the DLR band. Stunning. Then Mr. Big, where he matched and traded licks and harmonized with Paul Gilbert.

Amazing musician.

Re: Billy Sheehan

Does some great stuff in the G3 concerts.

Re: Billy Sheehan

I've seen him with Vai at least twice, and they're phenomenal together.

Re: Billy Sheehan

The first word that springs to mind is Attitude. This not because of the instrument, pickup, string and amp endorsements. It is because of his approach to working in a band context.

Yes. I own some Sheehan style instruments. No. I cannot play like him. What I take from the guy is the showmanship and the determination not to be relegated to the shadows at the back of a stage, plodding away in root/fifth land.

Saw him a couple months back with the Winery Dogs. Amazing show, and I got tons of great pix because I was front row in front of Billy for the whole show.

Re: Billy Sheehan

Billy Sheehan is to bass, what Paul Gilbert is to guitar.....

The thread scared me for a min.. when i showed up on my screen, I saw the thread name and part of the poster's name. So I saw Billy Sheehan RIP.. I was bout to have a stroke....

Re: Billy Sheehan

I saw him with Talas when they opened for Yngwies Rising Force tour ( Best show I've ever seen!) and again with Mr. Big opening for Rush. He's an amazing bassist!

Re: Billy Sheehan

I'm still a big fan--I saw the first West Coast performance of Talas back in the day :)

The Winery Dogs is top of my list of CDs to get next--also because Richie Kotzen is also one of my favorites!

Re: Billy Sheehan

I saw him with Vai on the DLR tour. They were both impressive. I've never seen another bassist quite like him. He has almost a jazz artists approach to hard rock/metal type music. I don't think you can give any bass player higher praise than: "You have a style and sound that's your own." I think that he does. There are many very talented and unique bass players out there. None of them sound like Sheehan.

Re: Billy Sheehan

Far and away, my favorite bassist. I TRY to play like him, but can only get so far. Ive seen him twice and been amazed each time :D
