Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

Raging BB Gunologist
I recently moved to a new jam space within my house. It's in the basement now, and the concrete floor is so solid I don't even feel the bass through my feet anymore.

This is my amp. I spent about an hour and a half strait just jamming away various things...

Then I turned around to shut my amp off....

That could've been bad. Took a picture of it for posterity. Now I think I'm going to have to get out the cargo straps....

That could of been bad! :S Glad you didn't have to pick up pieces after playing....

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

Man, I've had that almost happen while I played bass through the Bassman a couple of times. Now I REALLY make sure to look around every few minutes.

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

Hope you're doing something to protect your hearing. If there's enough vibration to do that, think about how badly your ears are getting rattled.

I'm part deaf in one ear. That one faces the amp.

I also run a fullstack, so I don't have the treble cranked through the roof to compensate for the off axis sound.

Deafness is bad, IMO, tinnitus is worse. Take care of your ears kids....

BTW, I'm really happy your amp didn't hit the concrete. I've said it before, and I'll say it now, and I'm sure I'll say it again....
That Electric, is about ONE SEXY MOFO!!!

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

Looks bad. I had a similar problem with a 6505 I had. Somehow that amp specifically wanted to fall off the cab all the time.

How do you think the tone compares between your old and new place?

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

If the guts are anything like a vintage orange it would've taken the fall and kept on going. There are perks to buying high quaity handmade amps...

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

see if you can't borrow a banding machine - strap that thing to the cab!

or, knock down the volume. i know which one is more fun, though. :burnout:

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

Dude... that would have sucked.

But... your rig is totally bad-ass. I'm sure you know this. :D

Pretty good. I thought it'd suck as it's in a basement, full concrete floor and whatnot, but it's actually pretty good. It doesn't have the hollow floor and thus the bass emphasis that my old spot had. It's pretty much strait up midrange and there's no nasty reflections like I expected. Maybe it's because I run the treble so low these days, but I can listen to this amp for hours and not feel any ear fatigue or have any ringing or dullness afterwards.

My tech figures I could pitch this thing down a flight of stairs and the only thing I'll break is the tubes. Still... I don't really want to test his theory.

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

Having to strap your amp down to prevent damage is more rock and roll than a goddam tour bus

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

never heard of 'em, but Electric should account for that on their cabs with recessed areas to hold their heads on better. maybe shoot em an email and let them know of this issue, maybe they'll think about incorporating something in the future.

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

I found a really neat rubber mat used to isolate machinery from the floor in an old workshop. Ridged and grippy, and cut to size, it sits atop the cab and the amp sits on it. No slippage and no howl-round with even the crappiest tubes. Those bar-feet could perhaps be replaced with rubber feet. Or duct tape it down - like ImmortalSix said, having to tape your amp down is rock and roll. mmmmm duct tape.....

Re: Bit of a holy f*ck moment while playing today.

I understand the use of maple bars on the cabs to acoustically couple them with the floor, but why would you put those on headshells? To better transfer vibration from the speaker cab into the amp chassis and tubes?

Seems like a design flaw to me.

I'd buy some rubber feet.

It think it comes with the sliders because the original Orange/Matamps came with them.

I'm going to pick up some of the rubber grip pad that hardware stores sell for kitchen drawers/cupboards.
