Hi John, Since the neck and middle pickups are RW/RP relative to each other you'll always have humcancelling when they are combined...as you know. In order to have humcancelling when the bridge and middle are combined, they need to be RW/RP relative to each other too. If you have another Strat pickup of any kind that's not installed in a guitar, take it and hold its polepirces against your three pickups one at a time. What you want is for it to be either attracted or repelled to the neck and bridge pickup: if it's attracted to the neck then it should also be attracted to the bridge, and repelled by the middle...if it's repelled by the neck than it should be repelled by the bridge also, and attracted to the middle. My guess is that you can correct the problem you're having by swapping the positions of the neck and middle pickups. If you're using a blender pot to combine the neck and bridge pickups, you'll probably have humcancelling if you leave your guitar as is, BTW. I've wired a few Strats that way intentionally because I do use the Blender pot on all of my Strats and the neck and bridge combined is one of my favorite tones...and I like for it to be humcancelling. As for whether I hear a diff if the middle is RW/RP or not: I don't know! I've never wired a guitar with three identical pickups and then changed just the middle to RW/RP to see if I hear a diff. But my feeling is that I wouldn't hear a diff and even if I did, I'd still use the RW/RP so I could have humcancelling. Good luck! Lew
