BKH Pickups

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
So I was sorting through my pickups, and taking stock of what I had.

The Good: A Double Cream Duncan 59/Custom neck made by Odie! (RIP), A Zebra PGn, A DD 103n, and a JB8

And then there were a BUNCH of these: BKH pickups. I investigated a little and couldn't find much on them, other than I think it must stand for Black Korean Humbucker, as they are all black, from Korean guitars, and humbuckers.

What DO we really know about these? Other than I apparently hate them and remove them wherever I find them.

First, they are BHK, not BKH

Second, it stands for "Boo Heung Korea"

They were stock in a ton of guitars through the '90s and 2000's, especially Epiphone, Fender/Squier, Dean, Guild, Gretsch, B.C. Rich...pretty much every mfr used their pickups at some point in their lower and lower-mid-level guitars.

^^ What he said. Most of the pickups on the Burns guitars of the same period are also BHK; current MIK Brian May sigs also have them.

OK - Black Humbucker from Korea.

Looking at that list I bought a tone of those crap brands! Hahahahaha.

Unfortunately, they could be nearly anything spec-wise. Sometimes they have identifiers that indicate the model. Many times, however, they were non-specific and made to very low-cost specs. Some sound good, but there's probably a reason why you changed them all out

RAndom specs - ha! Love it....Meh, I guess they work, don't they? And a good amp makes almost anything sound decent.

Actually, those BHK's look, and probably sound, more like real pickups than the SAMSHIN's that came out of my '93 and '96 Les Pauls.

They might actually work in different guitars and different positions than they originally came in. But then, they were in the parts drawer for a reason.

It doesn't matter what guitar or position they were in. They got removed....
