BKP Black Hawk Bridge + ??

Got a new project in works. LTD Ax-350, $200 + $40 shipping, missing pickups. It has a mahogany body with a through-body mahogany neck and rosewood board. Looking at putting a Bareknuckle Black Hawk in the bridge, any suggestions for a neck pup? I'm going to be using this one as a drop tuning guitar using mostly Drop B and Drop C tunings and probably 11-54 strings.

Thanks

Black winter neck may be good but I've found it to be a bit dull. A warpig neck or Cold sweat neck would be smooth but tight enough for low tunings. If you want something more PAF style, the emerald would be good. I guess we need more info, what style of music and what kind of sound do you want?

I play mostly metal, so I would need the tight low end. I've heard mixed things about the Black Winter, and the pickups alone are going to cost more than the guitar, so I might as well spend the extra money and get a Bareknuckle neck pickup. The Cold Sweat seems to be more of what I'm looking for.

first off, if you're sold on BKP, you might get better input from their forum. to be blunt, some people think that most of them are swimming in the BKP Kool Aid and the replies might be pretty biased.

Neck pickups seems to be the one area that BKP really let me down more than I expected, based on what I experienced with the bridge pickups. the VHII neck worked out alright for me, but the Emerald neck was just another overwound PAF variant that was more prone to being tubby in the lows that I expected from the tone chart. I'm alright with the Nailbomb neck, but I got it specifically for a particularly bright and tight-sounding guitar.

"tight" is a pretty relative term, unless you could be more specific. plus, the right playing technique and the right amp can make up for at least 2/3 of that recipe.

I tried the Cold Sweat bridge and found it scooped with shrill high end and a thumpy low end. not really what I was expecting for a Sykes tone. if the neck version has the same approach, but with an alnico magnet, it might be a challenge for tuning that low.

that Aftermath might be an option, provided you get the hex bolts. BKP says the standard fillister screws have the same tone, but they are wrong. but I will say the first think that I thought of when I tried the Black Winter set is that it's like a cost-effective Aftermath set.

however, some options you might be overlooking would include the DiMarzio offerings of the D-Activator and the Titan. SDUGF user BigFlannel also uses the Titan and says great things about it.

Phineas is right, there are plenty of dimarzios and duncans that will do the job. Look at their lineups. An air norton is a great option that gives you a smooth fluid tone. It may be a little warm. A full shred or sentient would be my choices for duncans. Those would really be excellent for you.
