Black Friday Song Remix

JOLLY

Super Simonologist
I did some other stuff to the song. I added a lead lick to go along with the rhythm to give it a kind of Satriani vibe, slowed down my sporadic playing in the final solo, added a little quirky solo type riff/lick in the middle, double tracked my bass with a real trebly/middy tone to go with my super low bass tone, and added a tiny little bit of reverb to the drums.

Anyways, I hope you like it even more now. I'm still not sure what I think about the mix, and what I did to the original song, but I'm going to leave it alone.

Re: Black Friday Song Remix

Time Stretch is a means of correcting timing discrepancies without resorting to dropping in or completely re-recording. The majority of computer DAWs offer this. Your Roland V-Studio does not.
If you are referring to my crappy drum screups on the song, no, I did not fix them...lol

Re: Black Friday Song Remix

The video should be a compilation of Black Friday shopping fights! The music goes right along with that!

Re: Black Friday Song Remix

All manner of timing artefacts. Difficult to tell which instrument is out of time with the others without access to the multi-track and some track mute buttons.

Some of the lead guitar drop-ins seem to start exactly to a bar line, cutting off the very beginning of the attack portion of the first note.

Your trebly/middly bass guitar overdub contributes an awful lot of clicketty clack information in almost exactly the same frequency range as the kick drum beater. These two sound sources conflict. One of them needs to go.
Dude, it's just crappy demo stuff for myself (and others to hear) so I don't forget riffs that I've written. I'm not trying to make some piece of perfection to put on the radio or TV....lol. I'm just having fun and enjoying myself. I'm not trying to make a Mutt Lange record.

Re: Black Friday Song Remix

I thought this was very cool. It's a bit hot in terms of level and there's some nasty clipping going on in a few spots. I think I see what FF is referring to, though I don't think it's strictly timing issues -- it's more like a beat mismatch. I hear it as 2 main riffs: the double stop riff and the whole note chord riff. The double stop riff is definitely in a different time signature and the drums fall out of sync because they are accenting differently than the guitars. Honestly, it's a demo and everything ends up in the same point, so I don't see this as mission critical (though I would probably have divided that riff into 3 'sections' for drums and had different beats for each, with that last measure of palm mutes bringing it back into 4/4).

When it comes to writing demos, I am reminded of the very wise proverb: It will be better than GOOD, it will be DONE. :)

I really like the ideas here; you should definitely consider this one for development into a complete song. I know a couple of session singers that would be great for this song, but my friend, Chandler Mogel, is the first one that comes to mind: http://www.chandlermogel.com

I've never said that. I value people's opinions and constructive criticism very much.

I quoted verbatim from post #10.

Re: Black Friday Song Remix

Sounds cool - I mainly hone in on the whole vibe, which is still all there. This one does sound hotter but if that's what your after, there ya go.

One of my pet peeves is micro-criticism when I post something that I say is done. Either dig on it or move on. No need to make a bullet list of issues you have with it.

One man's micro-criticism is another man's macro-issue. It's all perspective, and if you are putting something out into the public domain, you had better have a thick skin. :)
