Black pickup ring for trembucker?

Re: Black pickup ring for trembucker?

What year was your guitar? The 86 Model series had the Kahler 2520 trem which had tiny posts and a narrow spacing so I'm assuming that's what you had... The 87-89 JT-6 were the same as a Floyd... Then the 90-91 (92??) toothpaste logo had a Schaller which was also the same as you know...
I hated pre-internet days... Made trial and error a long drawn out process especially if you lived in an area that didn't have people who rocked out.

Oh it would have worked then,,,,,I was going off our local "techs" advice. He said not to order the OFR or we'd need to fill and re-drill for the studs.
He's the tech that eventually "inspired" me to start learning to do my own basic stuff, since he seemed to know less and care less then I did myself lol.
I didn't get internet until about 2009 lol, so I was always in the dark back then in regards to info,,,,,,and living in moonburger country I had no good info resource.

I think he said that the string spacing was narrower but the studs were wider,,,,,,,,,,but I sure don't doubt he was just wrong.

And btw, that crackle guitar was a neck-thru with a back-angled neck. I didn't see as many of these around as the other Charvel model-series.

Re: Black pickup ring for trembucker?

Looks like a Model-5A (going off memory, could be wrong)…
Yep that's the JT-6 like I have and the Floyd, Schaller, JT-580, Gotoh, etc.. all would've worked... Oh well...
Lovely guitar and kinda hard to find nowadays...

Edit:
That's what was known as Lava crackle

Lava Crackle is awesome!
I remember a few years back someone on one of the forums was dipping swirl finishes and came out with a fantastic lava-swirl finish. It literally looked like you were staring down at a molten-hot lava flow.

Re: Black pickup ring for trembucker?

The Charvel and BCRichs of the era were generally a base color and then a chemical sprayed over that so when the black is sprayed it shrinks allowing the base color to appear.. I know Kiesel did a few custom crackle finishes in the last year or so, but other than that sadly it's not very popular as it should be. I had a Blue/Green/Purple crackle 1988 USA BCRich ST-3 last summer that I should've kept...
I don't recall seeing the one youre talking about but I bet it looked awesome! Those swirl finished were all the rage too there for a few years.
