Black Sabbath - Sleeping Village boingy instrument?

Not a cover, just a question. In the laid back intro bit of Black Sabbath's Sleeping Village, what is that boingy instrument? It sounds like they're just taking a flexible piece of metal and, well, boinging it. But I've heard sounds like that in other songs, for instance Queens of the Stone Age's

I had one and could never do it when I was little. When I got older I realized I needed to bite down on the metal to make it work right. The vibrations feel weird on the teeth.
