Hi,

Anybody tried Black Winter on parallel and/or coil-split wiring before? How does it fare? Any samples?

Thanks

I currently have a set with each connected to a push/pull for series/split. There's a link to it on SD Facebook or at one of the green links in my signature below.

Wow, I never thought Black Winter to be so versatile. I do like the darker clean tone of Black Winter neck on series. But hearing it coil-splitted is a revelation. It seemed there's no parallel samples around, however.

Tried going to the links, but on the BW review page I can only find the description of the wiring, and no sound samples. I really want to hear how BW performed under parallel wiring for neck, and coil-split & parallel for bridge.

Thanks

Ah. I get where you're coming from.

Out of a great amount of disappointment with the vast # of sound samples out there of so much gear, it's gotten to where I seldom trust what I hear from any clips online. And I don't think I could do any better than playing my guitar through my amp into a computer to be squeezed into a file that's placed online and listened to on who-knows-what sort of device (i.e., computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.) out of what sort of speakers. Seems that I'd risk doing any gear company a dis-service, even if it might happen to be a reasonable facsimile, as whatever style played won't deliver what everyone wants to hear... and I conjure that any 'best representation' of a product should probably be held on the shoulders of the company that makes it, as they would be the authority on the 'sound' they want people to hear and think "now THAT is the ABC model or THIS is the XYZ model". So I agree, in so much as there is a great opportunity there for gear companies that want to cover all the bases with the ultimate presentation of what all can be done with the respective gear... especially since there are so many videos of guys jamming at bedroom levels into their iPhone that run the risk of losing sales - and that's not the dude that I want to be.

Re: Black Winter on parallel and/or coil-split

I would like to wire my black winter and cool rails pickups with a 3-way switch and two toggle switches. One switch for series/parallel and one for coil split. I need split only in the middle position using the inner coils. I tried to draw the wiring. Could you check it?
Thanks!

Re: Black Winter on parallel and/or coil-split

In a couple weeks I will get a new HH guitar to install Black Winters on it.
That guitar has (stock) serie/split/parallel triple mini toggle switch for both HB.

But another option could be be the X2N...
(I never tried the BW and the X2N and I am interested in both. And I won't get two additional axes.)

So does the serieand the parallel feels very different on the Black Winter ?
And what about the X2N on that matter ?
