Black Winter vs Slug?

Haven't tried either but heard glowing reviews of each

Say I'm a guy who loves: Black Sabbath, Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth, Van Halen, Metallica, Black Label Society, Zeppelin, tuning to around D or Eb standard most of the time, single note riffs, articulate solos, good cleans (when using the volume control) and splits, general ability to do classic rock or maybe some progressive stuff.

Chances are it's goin in a mahogany body and maple neck, floyd bridge and a 50 watt multi channel amp with a good amount of flexibility and a LOT of midrange.

Which do you think would be better suited? Or if you think another pickup would work better, which one and why?

To me, I'd suggest BW first if your amp has tons of midrange. The BW is more balanced. The Slug IMO has more of a midrange focus which could perhaps be overpowering.

I own both and love both.

i'm not sure, but that sounds like a work for the :bowdown: allmigthy :bowdown: Dimebucker!! and the raunchy bite paf :bowdown: Pearly Gates, the Black Winter will be too on the darkside, but i think it will retain clarity and articulation enough for the fast thrashing, also, another determinating factor will be the shape of the guitar, a maghogany body maple neck les paul, or flying v will not sound like a superstrat made from the same woods, a Lp will tend to be fatter darker, a V is a bit more mid focused, an explorer is dark and sharp, while a strat tends to drive things either high mid or balanced, without the shape the other pickup that can go well is the ol' Duncan Distortion, the slug being more focused on sludge and doom stuff, it might not get the thrashing done with articulation enough, and being so midrange focused, on a wood combo that leads to midrange, and in a midrange heavy amp.... we could only imagine.....

Les paul style, maybe with a little variation, 25.5 neck scale, probably no maple top either with a brass block floyd.

I HATE dark pickups. The Black Winter is on the bright side, and slug is not a souped up noiseless p90, but it reminds me something of that. The DD is darker and boxier sounding IMO than a BW I abd them in a guitar with a quick release pickup change system.

I'd go with the black winter too.

Or, a Black Slug? (hybrid of the winter and the slug?!)
