BlackHeart Little Giant

Hey guys,

I am planning to pick up a Blackheart Little Giant 5W head when I visit the States next month for a business trip. This will be my first tube amp. I have a long way to go on the guitar, but this amp comes at a price point where I don't need to feel too guilty:D

Any reviews/alternatives? I have heard clips of the Epi Valve Junior but I think I like the Blackheart better..it sounds more articulate. I frequently build DIY pedals...so high quality boost/dirt is already available to me.

I was thinking whether to buy the head or the combo. The issue with the combo is weight and size. I will have a tough time bringing too much weight with me on the flight(weight restrictions and such).

Inspired by Surgeon's thread I was thinking maybe I could buy a good speaker and get my 1x12" cab made once I come back here. In summary, I have some questions:

1. Which Speaker will go well with this amp? I will play mostly blues/classic rock, hard rock and classic metal. A good clean is also on my wish list but it shouldn't be too bright and precise, say something just targeted at country and jazz pickers.Should I go for British voiced one like Eminence Governor?I can safely say I am leaning more towards a Marshall sound as opposed to a Fender or Vox.

2. Can somebody educate me about Celestion Vintage 30 and Celestion Greenbacks? I am heavily leaning towards Warehouse Guitar speaker counterparts to these.

3. Should I buy the 8 Ohm version or 16 Ohm? What are the major differences here?

3. What particular things are to be kept in mind while getting the cab built? I am planning to use a carpenter and whatever good plywood I manage to get in India. Are just getting the dimensions right and getting it finished nicely enough? :D I am not really leaning towards the combo at this point.

I love mine. It does a great marshall sound especially with an OD and the master cranked.

I use a warehouse speakers greenback it breaks up nicely has bit and sound very old school

Re: BlackHeart Little Giant

I played around with one for a while and had a lot of fun. It sounded great through a G12H30.

Re: BlackHeart Little Giant

I like the Killer Ant. If it is voiced like it a c12n or Swamp Thang sounds good to me.

Re: BlackHeart Little Giant

I know of the BitMo and Mercury Magnetics mods, but I am not looking to sink any more money as of now. Maybe a tube swap to a 5751 and a better EL84 and I'm done.

Can anyone describe the difference between Celestion V30s and Greenbacks. Also in the running are the Eminence Governor and Private Jack. Basically I'm looking for a good British voiced speaker costing less than $80-90. It should have nice cleans, the Marshally low mid growl and not too shrill highs along with a full harmonically rich sound.

You want the Greenback or G12h-30. I love both with this amp. I use the greenback more since I use my g12h-30 with another amp I A/B with the LIttle Giant.

The Warehouse Reaper or Green Beret sounds like the one for me. What kind of cab do you use for this? I am planning to build a simple open-back 1x12" cab.
