Hey guys whats up? I just recently bought a new guitar. Its the esp ltd gus600ec with duncan ahb1's. Is there an 18 volt mod for those pickups or will it hurt the pre amp built in the pickup or will it be like an 18 volt mod on the emgs?

Re: Blackout/AHB1 18v mod????

I don't think that the 18v mod is recommended for the Blackouts. The 18v mod basicall increases headroom and decreases compression on the EMGs (IIRC). Then again, SD active pups are not as compressed as EMGs either.

I wouldn't do it if I were you.

Re: Blackout/AHB1 18v mod????

I looked into this when I changed from EMG pups to go with Blackouts, because I always did the 18v mod on all of my EMG equipped guitars. The Blackouts won't get hurt from doing an 18v mod but you won't notice any difference. Do not take this as fact as I merely read it on the Internet and my Blackout equipped guitars are still 9v and sound to me, better than the old EMG pups ever did. That's just my opinion, either way good luck.

+1, that's exactly what I heard...and I believe it was from Frank himself...that they are designed to give max headroom on 9v.

Re: Blackout/AHB1 18v mod????

Hey guys thanks for the help, I did already love the tone I get from the ahb1s. It was more or less knowledge to know about my new pups.

I did the 18v mod, I didn't notice any difference as compared to when I did it with EMG's

Re: Blackout/AHB1 18v mod????

Apologies for the necro bump, but this is one of the things I was questioning about the Blackouts vs. the EMG's. I am considering a set of the Phase 2's for one of my guitars - which also has the 9-18V mod in it. I guess now I know that I can install the battery jumper clip on one of the harnesses and keep it a 9V system when I do install and try them.

Thanks for this! ...And BTW, this was found using the search function!!! :P
