Blackouts are in!

Re: Blackouts are in!

Also, according to the diagram that Metalblaze posted, you need Duracell batteries.:D

Re: Blackouts are in!

So clip the wires, strip a little insulation on each end and twist them together. Put a little electrical tape on it and POOF! your done. I know, everything in a guitar is supposed to be soldered, or so they say, but I guaranty you will not hear a difference.

And nobody's mentioned this, but when Blackouts first came out there was a thread here from someone who had a problem with their Blackouts and it turned out they had the 18v mod, they removed it and the problem went away. But then I seem to remember someone else posting that they had it and had no problems, so who knows. Good luck!

Re: Blackouts are in!

Can't be the 18V mod. I just put the Blackouts in my Hellraiser, which are 9V, direct quick connect, and what do you know...hummahumhum.

---

That's how much of the wire I have left, basically, half of a thumbnail. This still possible? If so, how do I do it? Bear in mind once I do this...that's it, either the Blackouts will work or I'll have to throw'em out, no more wire left...

Re: Blackouts are in!

Okay, slight update.

Tore off some of the outer black cable. Saw 3 wires: silver spindly, red, white. Taped up the bridge, didnt have enough to tape up neck. Plugged'em in, no huge hum yet, didn't tune. Update when I get back from work.

Re: Blackouts are in!

The Blackouts are out.

I enjoyed the Blackout Neck in my bridge position, but the hum makes me want to punch someone.

Thanks to Kac for sending me them, and **** myself for messing it up, twice.

So ends the Blackout era.

Re: Blackouts are in!

That's what I said when I put in my first set of Blackouts in my first of many EMG equipped guitars. The problem was the 18v mod. It made all the difference in the world to restore it back to 9v. I would never ever look at EMG's again, the Blackouts are much better.
Something else was done wrong, I think.

You do realize he's not trying to connect the wires together but rather isolate them from each other?

Sometimes people should let techs install pickups for them.

Re: Blackouts are in!

To the OP, if you are not soldering the connections then you are probably not getting good ground and hot connections. I would place a bet that that is your problem. If you don't know how to solder then take it to someone who knows what they are doing and have them do it. Much better than hacking your new pickups. ;)

I took them out of my 18V Ibanez and put them in my Hellraiser, which by default is 18V. I still got the same hum.

Tech install pickups

Dudes, the reason I have a problem is that this came with a cable. If it was quik-connect only do you think I would be here?

Re: Blackouts are in!

To put it simply, you cut TOO MUCH WIRE. You were supposed to tape each individual lead and then all of them together a 2nd time.

As it stands the cut wire acts as an antennae and I'm not sure if there's anything you can do but send them to SD and ask them to replace/remove that cut wire...

Re: Blackouts are in!

IDIOT! why the hell would you go off snippin wires off without nowing anything? THERE NOT EMG's you just ruined your pickups . :grumble::butkick:

You are a 17 year old in the United States, meaning you've had at least 11 or 12 years of grammar classes, who is unable to spell "knowing", don't know which form of "there/their/they're" to use, and you're calling him an idiot?

I also just noticed that you don't know that pluralizing a word does not require an apostrophe.

I am hoping that they can do it for me.

.........umm, this was in reference to his undoing the 18v mod, not about the cut lead wires..........

Re: Blackouts are in!

Both the bridge and neck pickups of my Blackout set have the lead wires cut completely off, no insulating, nothing. They both work perfectly, no hum.
What can I say, you're lucky, he wasn't...

I think they can, it shouldn't be that difficult, can't be completely sure though.
I think it'd be a good idea to contact them directly...
