Blackouts for ibanez RGs

Hi, how are you doing?

i´ve bought 2 used axes this week, 2 japan made ibanez RGs... one RG 550 ltd and one RG 1527...both with basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, and ibanez edge pro bridge (floyd)... and their crappy V7,V8, V77, V78 pups

i want to put there 2 sets of blackouts, the 6 string one, and the phase I 7 string version... but i´ve been told that they don´t fit on the pup route, is that true? the 6 string ibanez has that kind of pickguard where the pups are screwed in, but the 7 string one hasn´t... so what do you think?

and the other question is, do they split coils? because both guitars have a 5 way switch, which i would like to use if possible...i´m going to play metal the most, but i want to use the single coil options as well

if not, which set of pups would you recommend me for both axes?

thanks a lot in advance for the help

Re: Blackouts for ibanez RGs

The Phase 1's should drop in. Blackouts do not split.

For sixer, I don't know...depends in the route under the pickguard.

Blackouts are nice, but if they don't fit the sixer (and you don't want to break out the router), drop in an Evolution bridge and a PAF Joe neck and call it good. That is a really nice combo in an Ibby RG and you can wire the five way for splitting.

Re: Blackouts for ibanez RGs

Could always try the Dimarzio D-Activators in the 6?

Good call. I have an Ibby 7 and RG with Evolution bridges and Air Norton 7/PAF Joe respectively. I have never tried the D-Activators. I have been plenty happy with the current setups.

Also, I had to trim the corners of the baseplates for the siz string Evolution and PAF Joe (1570 - no pickguard).

I should note that DiMarzios in an Ibanez have a unique relationship that just sounds "right" for them. Everything else I own has Duncans of some sort.

The Phase 1 fitts the 1527...No problems there.
But they won't split ,so no singlecoil options available!
The Custom would be petfect for the 1527 if you go with SD
If not , The DMZ Blaze ,The Q-Tuner super High Z ,The BKP Miracle Man/Warpic Ceramic would fitt the bill!

Re: Blackouts for ibanez RGs

the BO' with fit into any guitar with rings or a pickgaurd
the BO's have a shallow depth so they will fit into the route of those guitars

Re: Blackouts for ibanez RGs

hi again, thanks a lot for the help!

yeah i´ve thought about the Evos for the 6, or a Dime/59' for the duncan set of passives, but i honestly think my first option is the blackout set... even if i can´t use the tele and strat-like options... i think i want the active pros rigth now, and i think i´m going to use them more for what i´m going to play at this moment...if they fit well of course

i forgot to say that i´m gonna tune the guitar to Drop B (and the seven to Drop A, e b g d a E A) if that helps for the pup choice anyway...

btw the d-activators are pretty articulate and they of course are meant to play high gain and stuff, but they kinda lack something (tried them on a xiphos) like most of the time when i play with dimarzios ( i could save the fred, the paf joe, and the evo)...

thank you again for the info
