Blackouts in Basswood?

So the BO's were intended for my EC-1000 but the bride pup had an issue, so I re-installed the EMG's w/ 18v mod(Franknfilms you were right) and they are staying! So now I have some BO's coming, how would they get along in a Basswood quilted maple top Ibanez RG R3EX1? Or should I exchange them for something like the Crunchlab/Liquifire or something else? Thanks.

Re: Blackouts in Basswood?

Should I stay with the AHB-1's or go for a AHB-2b in the bridge and AHB-1 in the neck or even try the AHB-3 set? I have to send them back anyway since they are in Gold.

Re: Blackouts in Basswood?

I've only played the AHB-1 set (in both 6 and 7 string form).
My current Ibanez RG 7421 has a AHB-1 7 string set in it and sounds great.
I can't tell you how the AHB-2 and 3 versions sound, sorry.

Re: Blackouts in Basswood?

Thanks for the info man, I noticed with the AHB-2b you can switch between 2 voicings via push/pull which my RG is wired that way already. I will see if I get any more feedback from AHB-2 or 3 users.

Yep, the blackouts just didn't do it for me in my ltd, got to have the cleans and the brutal attack of the emgs 18v. In your ibanez rg I don't think you can go wrong with blackouts, blackouts metal, or that dimarzio crunchlab/liquifire set. The cl/lf were specifically designed for petrucci's basswood signature guitar. The blackouts will add some much needed beef to your rg as well. If you dig slipknots tone (I don't) and/or tune down to A you should try the ahb-3 in your rg, otherwise they probably aren't a good fit.

Re: Blackouts in Basswood?

There are some user here who tried all Blackouts model,Darth Nihilus and Altered Beast, and it seems they swear by their EMTYs.
Just hope they will chime in,or you can shoot them a PM.

Re: Blackouts in Basswood?

Thanks for the help guys, I PMed Darth. So I am torn between BO's and the CL/LF set now. I have read so many mixed feelings on actives and basswood, especially the lower end basswood guitars(as mine is) but I am not really sure how much the maple top effects the overall tone.

Re: Blackouts in Basswood?

How about 81x/85x in the esp for a paf sound and feel wich this guitar in know for and the emgs with 18v mod in the ibanez. If you do this get the pickup cover that matches the hardware.
