Blackouts preamp

Mine has EMG Selects. The EMG version of Duncan Designed's. They sound great. I've never changed them in several years of ownership.

I have heard good things about the EMG Selects. How different are they from the HZs? I have a set of HZs. The ones with the pole pieces from early 2000, I think. They're alright, nothing special.

I can't really say. I have very limited experience with EMG's. I can say that they are clean and fairly evenly voiced. Kinda hi-fi. Both are in PAF-ish territory at around 8.2k. And both are 3-wire split-able. I've had EMG Selects in a Strat too. They also were good.

See, I didn't have as good an experience with the Selects. They were in a Steinberger import I owned (maple body) and they were pretty lifeless. The guitar came alive with a 59 and 2 Alnico II singles.

I'm thinking that maybe "lifeless", "sterile", and "hi-fi" might be interchangeable in some contexts. These have a fairly flat EQ, which would make them great pedal drivers. Which is probably how most people would use a Warlock. Maybe.

Then again, a pair of 59's could be sweet in here.
