Blackouts Set in a New Gibson Les Paul Standard?

Re: Blackouts Set in a New Gibson Les Paul Standard?

I've got blackouts in my 2014 Les Paul studio... but I didn't think much of the AH-1... it kinda sucks. But the EMTY Mick Thomas Blackout is the ****.

The Jeff Loomis blackout is really good too. I will say, I have and like the AH-1 bridge pickup in the neck position of my LPS

CannadianShredder, have you done the swap yet? I'm curious to find out what you think about the Blackouts in your Gibson. I have a set with with silver covers on one of those $550 Epiphone LP plus tops that weighs a ton. Not many of my guitars have a name, but I call this one Zeus, because it feels like I'm casting lightning when I play it.

I recently bought a 2016 Gibson LP Standard T on sale in the heritage cherry burst. I too, have found that I dislike the Burstbucker Pros. The neck isn't so bad but the bridge is very "snarly" to my ears. I tried swapping magnets after searching posts here and an A4 in the neck is real nice, but a UOA5 or A4 in the bridge still didn't do it for me.

I'm either going to swap the Blackouts out of the Epiphone to the Gibson and sell the Epiphone, or look into a Slash or SNS set for the Gibson.

By the way, when you do your swap, unscrew the tune-o-matic bridge and tailbar from the body an see if there is sustain-robbing sawdust in the holes. Mine had a bunch of it.

Interesting because I felt the same way about the Burstbucker Pros. Neck p/u wasn't too bad, but that bridge pickup had a snarly tone to it. My old '08 LP had a similar situation and tried a Slash set in it and found it way too muddy and spongy sounding. Even playing through a 6505+ head. So I had settled on a SD '59 SH-1n/Custom SH-5 set for it. This time around, I want more of a "modern" tone so decided on the Blackouts, plus I want to yank out that circuit board business. I'm planning on starting a YouTube comparison video this coming weekend starting with the factory Burstbuckers still in it so watch for that to be finished in the next couple of weeks.
