Anybody have experience with these 2? Before someone yammers about "Look in the search bar", SAID search bar will not let me look for anything. It says connection error: connection refused. Lame... so.... anyway... anybody?

Sorry, the search on the forum and on the main site isn't quite working yet.

Re: Blackouts vs. Blackouts metal

I have not tried the Blackouts metal, but I own a standard Blackouts set and have them in my #1.

The standard Blackout bridge is so heavy and I can’t imagine how much heavier the Blackouts Metal could really be. Seems redundant to me.

Re: Blackouts vs. Blackouts metal

I tried both, a few years back I had a livewires metal before so I knew what I was in for. I still have the blackouts metal. I sold off all the other blackouts save a regular neck and a Gus g set.

The metal is the highest output, most saturated pickup you will ever use. It has so much output it overdrives most clean channels at the input. It has a pretty good mid push too.

I liked it more than the regular blackouts and the mick Thompson ones, by a lot, but that’s maybe just me? I also have black winters in my Les Paul, because I hated the bb pros.

Re: Blackouts vs. Blackouts metal

Blackouts metal to my ears is just a ridiculous output and way too much mid punch. there is a jumper to reduce the output to "normal" blackouts level, which is still pretty crazy hot. hard to get a clean sound out of the metal one
i kind of like the standard blackouts tone. more balanced and not that big mid push. i sold it off though. because it was too hot for my amp. my amp already has enough gain on tap. i played the blackouts on 9 o'clock gain setting (under that the amp just sounds like muddy crap) and the guitar volume on 3 or 5 out of 10.
that's about EMG 81 levels with guitar volume full up. in this setup the EMG 81 sounded much tighter. i kind of liked the Blackouts low end thump but in a A/B comparison with the muddy settings i literally didn't cut it.

you can always use a google search like:
"site:forum.seymourduncan.com blackouts metal"

That's the way I feel about the metal version as well.
But that is of course personal taste, you'll find players who will prefer the huge mids push, like allstarrme mentioned above, he prefers the metals to anything else out of the Blackout line.
So if you are one of those players, that like huge mids, you may prefer the metal version, if you are a player who likes definition and does not like a huge mid bump, you'll like the regular Blackouts more.
