Blackstar amps- how do they take pedals?

Particularly I'm looking at the HT1R, and HT-5R as something low wattage I can bring around the house/out on the deck and practice with during day or late @ night.

Anyone tried running dirt boxes into the clean channels or as a goose??

I don't know about the low watt ones, but my HT100 takes pedals as well as any amp out there. For overdrives and distortions, it's particularly spectacular on the clean channel. My Line6 M9 sounds incredible as usual through the FX loop.

Oh yeah, I turn off the reverb. Blackstar boasts about the reverb but I don't think it sounds that great and I don't like how it mixes with pedals. I just keep it all the way off and all effects sound good.

They take pedals great, I've tried them both ways with good results.

Yes they take pedals great!!! Alot of the time I just run my Crunchbox or Blues Pro through the clean channel and I love the tone.
