Blacktop Jaguar Mod Doubts

Hi guys, it's been almost 2 years since I got a beautiful Fender Jaguar Blacktop 90, it was the first time I got to try P90's and so far I love them.

As I got into more musical styles I've been wanting to get a new set of pickups for it, more variety, and versatility. I'm trying to get a HH pickguard for the guitar but I noticed that I may need to get a part routed on the body to fit both humbuckers. Do you think it's a good idea to rout the body and get a new a pickguard or should I get P90 sized humbuckers?

If you really want humbuckers, I'm not going to stop you. I will, however, encourage you to rethink making the switch to humbuckers, as P90s are really special pickups and most guitars don't have them. Here's an idea - try getting a set of new Duncan P90's of your choice. I firmly believe they will sound so much better than the stock pickups that you will be extremely satisfied with your choice to stay with P90's. If you don't like them, use Duncan's exchange policy to get a set of humbuckers of your choice. You will have to get a new pickguard and route your guitar, but I feel you're better off with regular humbuckers than P90 sized buckers, if for no other reason than you have more than a few choices of what pickups you can use.

If you don't have another guitar with humbuckers already, feel free to disregard my advice.

Well, I don't think the return policy works through the dealers here in Mexico. However as I was writing the post I realized that mostly I want to change the bridge pick-up, I'm happy with the warm, round sound of the neck pick-up. Maybe I'll try the Duncan custom shop for the bridge pickup P90 sized and later change the neck one. Thank you so much.

Glad I could help. It might be worth inquiring with Duncan to make sure that their exchange policy doesn't apply to international customers - it says here that there are some countries besides the US where it does apply. It would surprise me if Mexico wasn't on that list considering her proximity to the US.

TV Jones does some uber cool noise-cancelling pickups in P90-sized covers.

Than you guys, I checked all of the options you told me. I need a modern sound that's why I want a humbucker but I still have time left so I'll keep looking for an option, thank you so much.
