Blend idea

Re: Blend idea

You are amazing- Going to have to read this over in the morning with a fresh brain- Expect I can make it work, but will get back-
Thanks again!

Re: Blend idea

Thanks again Artie- Makes complete sense this morning-
Both my zion and parker are wired using the old tone as the spin-pot, so I will replace the vol pots with push pulls as you outlined in #1- Hope to get the nitefly wired up tonight and will let you know!

Re: Blend idea

Artie, on one hand big thanks, but on the other hand you know the saying that ignorance is bliss:)

Appears I congratulated myself way too soon on my pickup selection- The 3 coil thing was doing so much blending that I thought I had just put in the 3 perfect pups to match the parket, but now that I'm actually isolaing them, the crusier and the JB work well together, but the cool rails is actually rather hot. Of course I can always switch back to the blended sound with this mod, but the traditonal sound is more articulate..for the first time I can get nearly Tele settings from back pups.

So I may mess with the height or even consder switching out the cool rails now that I understand how the sounds are coming to be, but here's how I would sum up the combinations:
5th regular
very hot neck pup

5th blended
far less hot, more bluesy and lots of rythem settings

4th regular
I think the cool rails is over powering the cruiser- relatively well defined but little quack
4th blended
very quacky with lots of variety for rythem and lead

3rd- about the same regular or blended- Gotta say that the cruiser is the surprise pup out of the 3, very good rhytem and lead pos

2nd- regular
pretty traditional 2 position wiht quack
2nd blended
much funkier- tons of variety
1st- no change full JB both ways?
I think the reason there is no differnce here is that I split the jb off of the 5 way not off of the coil rolloff pot-

So there you have it- You need to name this mod becuase I like it even more now that I have 3 or 4 more usable sounds- I just hope I can work the cool rails into the mix a littel better, but will use it in practice tomorrow just to see if there's more here than meets the eye-

Thanks again for a very informative and axe changing thread!

Here's an idea:

How about adding a 5-way switch after the blend connection to allow for selection of the "A" coils too. Then you could select any "A" with any "B" and blend between them.

It would be a little more difficult to work but the two five ways could be side-by-side so they could be operated somewhat normally, i.e. so that each 5-way could be put into the same position at the same time.

Re: Blend idea

Thats an interesting idea. You could have 3 traditional pickups, and 3 "hybrids" at the flip of a switch or two. ;)

I like it. Now we just have to see who wires this mess up first. :laugh2:

Re: Blend idea

wow- i'm already thinking over a p90 with 2 5 ways, so this wouldn't be any stranger:)

Unfortunately I dont have a platfrom to try this on- My zionstrat is the first of the parlel 3 cloils and I used a modified version on my nitefly for playing out- As much fun as this sounds I;m going to have to be careful, GAS could overwhem actaul playing time if I'm not careful:)

Thanks for the ideas guys, and if either of you get the time, please give me some comments on the p90 mod i'm thinking about-
