Now maybe they're not late '80s style, but I do love a nice super Strat. I also play in an all-original pop rock band with a female vocalist who plays keytar in addition to having keyboards but yet isn't over-the-top '80s cheese but rather fairly modern sounding.
I dunno how I fit into it time-wise. I was born in '79 and started playing guitar in '95, learning loud punk, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc. Then I got heavy into Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin which led to Van Halen. Then I started getting into some of the newer stuff like Coheed and Cambria and The Receiving End of Sirens. So, musically, what I listen to is all over the place. However, I love Stratish guitars with non-recessed Floyd Roses and humbuckers in the bridge.

Fender, PRS, and Martin guitars...not bad for SD. Warmoth's selection of SD pups for original builds remains dominant. I like the Fender, PRS and Martin guitars featured but would love to hear and play them too!

Which is weird because I just got into an argument with someone who says that passive pickups are not good at all for shredding or metal and that any player who uses passives for such music is an idiot. My comment back to him was that while a lot of players are using active pickups to slam the front end of their amps, other players, especially in the progressive metal genre are embracing the sounds of extremely clean guitars and passives are much more responsive to things like picking dynamics and tonewoods (which then set off a tonewood debate). Having cleaner clean tones also allows for bigger shifts from clean, delicate passages to super heavy riffs, and such dynamics and highs and lows gives the music a grander feel.
You'll find more and more players starting to use passives. Even some players have gone from actives to passives.

There are very, very few 80's artists and music that I enjoy, but I love the super strat template.

You can do a lot more with a Duncan-loaded superstrat than 80's metal -- which, by the way, is not a single genre but a group of genres ranging from NWOBHM to thrash to pop metal to progressive. I caught the end of the 80's metalverse as I was growing up, and I was and remain very focused on the music. Many people seem to tie music and fashion together in their minds, but I see the latter as a distraction with dubious claim to my attention. Much like Taylor Swift's hotpants, it doesn't tell you as much about the music as you might like to think.
Still planning to do an all-A2 Soloist one of these days.

I think this is similar to the other thread about hot pickups. I don't live in th US and here in my country SD is often associated with those pointy guitars.
It looks like if you bought a SD you're gonna play mean and distorted tones. Fender guys likes fender pickups, but if they are going to play Iron Maiden, they switch to SD.
Gibson guys often think Gibson pickups are the "right" way to go, unless they play, let's say, randy rhoads or other 80's metal, so they usually get a JB.
I know, the majority of people here don't have the knowledge about pickups and neither a great number of models available, so I understand. Only a few here are like me, that is willing to know more about the nuances of tone.
