Re: Blog: Unlocking the Secrets of Bass Distortion

the bassist in my band gets a HUGE tone out of his jazz bass with the boss ODB-3.

Probably because he doesn't know any better. If you work and work at it, you can find one decent setting on it. I'm not saying this because I'm some sort of Boss hater or pedal snob - I owned one for a while. I got fed up with the finicky nature of the ODB-3 so I went looking at other options. I sold it immediately after I plugged into an Ampeg Scrambler. I don't play bass in a band anymore, but you should have seen how wide my bassist's eyes got when I showed him what the Scrambler sounds like on bass.

That reminds me my old bass player has my Skreddy Mayo. I really need to get that back.

Re: Blog: Unlocking the Secrets of Bass Distortion

I've got an old green Sovtek Big Muff Pi that has more low end that any other BMP I've ever heard.

In fact some of the parts in it don't even match the schematics!!!

Scott from BMF effects blue printed it and uses some of the values on his Aries Fuzz for bass players!
